Before the memes I've only seen one person (other than another who lives in the state of the floods and might or might not be affected soon) talk about the Queensland floods here in Australia that are happening right now. I wish I could do something for the hundreds its affecting but if you feel you can please think about donating only this morning ( Read more... )

Harry Potter, well, somewhow (probably finding borg_princess on LJ) I stuck my head back into HP fanfiction -mostly Hermione/Snape

:D *preens* Yay me!

Oh, Boy- is that the NZ film? I watched that a while back with my family, it was actually not bad...very endearing cast!

And lol, The King's Speech, I heard good things about it but it sounded sooo boring. I'm more action/adventure/romance/sci-fi/fantasy-ish...

What's that Tamora Pierce like, btw? I used to read all her books, and then I got let down by the sequel to the Winding Circle books and was quite annoyed with her for a while. I think I tried the first Beka Cooper one, but the first-person threw me a bit.

:P

Yep, yeah I wasn't too bad, I probably hadn't thought it was really one of my favourites but getting it into a few people's minds that might decide to see it can't hurt.

Yeah, a lot of drama and more independent style movies sound boring at first. Like Made in Dagenham sounded so boring, but it was heart warming and even funny. If you have a rainy boring afternoon sometime you should definitely check out The King's Speech, its slightly slow but the build up and the funny scenes in the middle are worth it. Plus Geoffrey Rush, Colin Firth, Helena Bonhem Carter are amazing.

I liked it, Cooper comes into her own I guess in this one. I had some issues with the The Circle Opens series but I still read it, and the final book The Mage Emperor or whatever it was called was mixed feelings from me but I think I liked it overall to end the series.

Hee, you're nice, spreading the word on its behalf, even if it wasn't a fave! (I don't think any NZ movie is gonna top Whale Rider, JS)

Ack, I find regular drama/independent movies SO BORING. I don't care about family dynamics or businesses or whatever crap, so not my style. But I'm glad you liked it, and yeah, sure, if I see it on tv sometime, I might tune in. I mean, I wasn't into 'Akeelah and the Bee', but Ma was watching it as I sat there reading...and like, twenty minutes in, I wasn't reading anymore, heh, I was so engrossed in it! And it was just a movie about a kid doing spelling bees!

Circle Opens...GAH. Wait! I just googled, and realized it was the sequel to the sequel that I hated! The Will of the Empress! I loved the bond the kids had and it sucked that they all split up and that bond was broken and just, certain developments really bothered me, and yeah, it wasn't up to par with the rest of the books. Oh, well. At least there were eight pretty good books before it ( ... )

Haha. Sorry to break your bubble, but it was promoted in Australia as New Zealand's biggest movie and they highly showed the fact that it is now their highest grossing film of all time (beating Whale Rider) and The World's Fastest Indian which had been sitting up at the top for five years now. I'm not saying I prefer it to Whale Rider, to me Whale Rider is more emotional and I just like it (maybe it helps its a female lead who knows), but Boy is no pushover in its hometown. :P

Yeah, I saw a Spelling Bee movie once in school or something and it ended up being really riveting to watch, but come on it sounds boring! Heh.

There's another book coming?? Oh.

Oh, I meant personally speaking rather than box office, lol, for me, Whale Rider was such an epic movie, I mean, it had me in TEARS, I was so emotionally invested in it, just WHOA.

That said, I am very surprised that it actually outperformed Whale Rider. Huh.

And agreed, the fact that it had a female lead was what won me over. ^_^ I wish Keisha Castle-Hughes was in more stuff.

Heh, I thought you might have after I posted that, but yeah surprising.

Ooh, she was in that? Okay.

Hm, I'll have to remember to check that out and see if I've read them. I had thought that Empress one was the final one out of all of that world. XD
