My current rankings (top to bottom) for the Project Runway finale collections and decoy collections:
Mondo
Michael D
Andy
Valerie
Christoper
April
Casanova
Michael C
Gretchen
Ivy
This is ranked on the "ooo, I'd wear that" / "oh, that's pretty" standard of judging, not on workmanship, cohesiveness of collection, innovation, or any other actually important standard.
Sorry for the small pics- and anyway if you really want to look, why aren't you at Project Rungay?
(Mondo) Admittedly, this is similar to some of Seth Aaron's dresses last season- black and white plaid or check, tight-ish top, bubblier skirt. Different aesthetic, really fun. The sort of dress that allows me to overlook my dislike of rhinestoned/bedazzled clothing.
(Michael D) If I had this dress in my angsty middle school/high school times, you can bet I'd wear it every day. (Well, no, I wouldn't- I needed jeans for the pockets. But if I wasn't busy with teching in the theatre, then yes.) Love the sleeve treatment, the colors, and it looks well textured.
(Andy) I was torn between the woven top in this look (the pants are meh) and the
one-shoulder silver fringe dress, but this one reminds me of Tinkerbelle in a good way, and I love his approach to interesting shirts. Also, unlike some of the other tops, this one has a back to it. Good!
(Valerie) The bad: the shiny strip down the middle, the way the
back is designed (I guess it's okay for people who don't need bras?), the fit on the hip. The good: sci-fi collar, interesting symmetry between the collar and the hip design, the color.
(Christopher) So boring, but I like the hood, the color, and the ruching. Not sure about the fit on the bust, but I haven't been that flat-chested since I was 11 years old so I'm not the best judge.
(April) The least "asylum" of her looks. From a cohesion point of view I really like April's collection, but from a "That's pretty!" standpoint she's rather far down on the list. Which sucks, because she's a great personality.
(Casanova) Speaking of sucks: I am so going to miss Casanova. I don't like the
back of this shirt and I don't dig formal shorts in general, but the blouse is a rich color and I am a sucker for the neckline. Too much idolization of Cardassian characters on Star Trek, I think.
(Michael C) If my mom hadn't pointed that Julianne Moore would look stunning in this dress, I might just hate everything in this collection. Well, this
Zoe Saldana/Boobs Legsly appropriate dress is okay. Boring and poorly draped, but okay.
(Gretchen) Not the whole look, it is awful, but the yellow lapeled black jacket (?) would work as a statement piece over a simple dress or jeans-and-tank look. Maybe.
(Ivy) Snooze. This shirt tickles the part of my garment memories related to the lady whale scientist in Star IV: Let's Steal Ourselves Some Whales, so that's nice, but the back of it is similar to the one you see in the background: nearly non-existent. Also, formal shorts. BLAARGH to them
So excited for next week- January Jones as a guest judge? I smell lols.
