Movies: The Green Butchers, Frostbitten, 30 Days of Night, 28 Weeks Later

Okay I kind of pigged out on movies this weekend. I'm still tired a lot, and relaxing with a movie and a glass of wine is a lot more appealing than, say, cleaning out my basement. Which I really need to do. But I digress.

The Green Butchers: Okay, you either think cannibalism is funny or you don't. Either you laughed your ass off at "Eating Raul" ( Read more... )

Y'know, I would have thought so too, but the "30 Days of Night" graphic novels started coming out in 2004, and "Frostbitten" came out in 2006. I think it's just one of those rare cases of kinda-sorta the same good idea popping up in two different places.

So what did you think of the remake of "Insomnia?" It wasn't as completely sucky as I thought it would be, but of course is stripped out that interesting moral ambiguity from the original movie.

I actually kind of liked the remake of Nattevagten (Nightwatch). The original Danish film was cool, but the American remake was pretty solid. I mean, Ewen MacGregor and Brad Dourif! Yay! But you have to wonder what the point is.

I was thrilled when the (totally unrelated) Russian fantasy movie Night Watch and its follow-up, Day Watch, came out directly from Russia with English subtitles. It just wouldn't have been as good without the lead actor!

And let's not talk about the hideous American remake of the French film "The Vanishing." Hurk.

Heh. It's fun to be a movie snob. But I can't get TOO snobby, considering the fact that I recently watched a movie called "Jesus Christ, Vampire Hunter..."

I do post on IMDB sometimes. I'll prolly pop these little nuggets up there too. I try to balance out the airheaded 15-year-olds who post there constantly.

Doing my daily ego-search, I found this blog. And I can say that the idea of a town that has 30 days of night, comes from me, growing up in city above the arctic circle having 30 days of night! Just add vampires, and there you go. Is is as you say, a rare case of an idea popping up in two different places.
Anyways, glad you liked it! If you ever write a horror movie, heres a inside tip. If you have a talking dog in it, you quickly divide people into the groups of "loved it" and "I´d rather set fire to bumblebees and have them attack my eyes, then watch that film again!"

Take care.
