Kyle's backpack was heavy and the change in air burned his lungs. The portal had been moved closer to HQ, saving a long, dangerous trek from the old Tech-Com base to the new underground facility

This wasn't the future Sarah Connor had warned her son about. John, not the John sitting at the desk here, but some version of John had seen to it that things were changed. Skynet had done its own work, sending back operatives in an effort to terminate John Connor and end the human threat once and for all. Little did Skynet know that its interference had been the one to cause John's existence in the first place

John nodded slowly. "And you're not." The resemblance was unnerving with Terminators that could look like humans. They were alone in the room though, something John wouldn't have allowed if he thought the boy was a machine. He was a result of universes with a sense of humor and time travel gone awry. "My mother thought you were John Connor too."

"Only was once for about a weekend," he said, quirking a bit of a smile that empathised with the look-a-like situation. "'M pretty happy tisn't a permanent situation. No offense or nothin'."
George couldn't help raising an eyebrow though, his brain supplying more than a few scenarios where that might happen. "Y'know, that sounds like somethin' y'd do though..." It was half a joke.
He was taking this far more seriously than it sounded.

Not knowing what to say to that, John sat back in his chair and took a long look at George. "Have you met me before?" The last few decades were spread out in his mind. He didn't know where to place this meeting in the scheme of things that were and things to come.
Re: HQ - LaternoearsyetFebruary 24 2011, 04:42:15 UTC
"One time," George admitted, unable not to move around to look at the office. "Not even a few weeks back for us, but you were just a minnow-sized lad." He looked over at Connor. "That - d'ye remember that? Or was it another you?"
Re: HQ - LaterweetinyconnorFebruary 24 2011, 04:48:49 UTC
This was still so early for them. It was difficult for John, not knowing how to piece together the information his mother had given him about the future and the past and the man who would be his father. "I remember," he said. "I wasn't always sure it was real until you found us when I was older. There are dark days ahead in your future and my past. There are events that have to happen so this war can be won. I have to send you both back. When he comes home next time, you can't follow." His tone suggested an oddly worded request rather than a demand.
Re: HQ - LaternoearsyetFebruary 24 2011, 05:09:12 UTC
His time. That - George wasn't thrilled with the wording.
"And I'll be there," he replied evenly. Really, it didn't matter if the Black God himself had an appointment with George before that. The Black God could sate himself here on the uncounted already dead. "Have t'warn ye, I don' like the ending of this particular tale."

"You remember me, that weekend. You remember the way I looked at my father. If there was another way for this to end, a way that didn't result in the extermination of the human race, you know I would take it. I have to send him when he's older. She has to live."
Re: HQ - LaternoearsyetFebruary 24 2011, 05:20:39 UTC
"She does," George confirmed. "An' I'd never argue that." Even if she weren't the mother to the Savior of the Human Race and all that. He glanced over at John, raising an eyebrow. "Tisn't th' part up for dispute."
Re: HQ - LaterweetinyconnorFebruary 24 2011, 05:31:16 UTC
The face was more scarred and the eyes had seen more trauma than anyone should have had to see, but the expression was almost the same as the young boy's had been. "When we get the technology working the way I know it can, I'll be sending people to make changes to key moments I've already lived through until I can find a way to make it right and stop this from ever happening. It may be the only real way to win this war."
Re: HQ - LaternoearsyetFebruary 24 2011, 05:40:07 UTC
There was something in his voice that made George realise even more than he already had why people followed John Connor so completely. He took a seat, leaning back, not quite succeeding in looking at his ease. "I'd like t'help ye change the past. Since you're tryin' it anyway."

He shrugged then took a breath. "There's nothin' but dark days ahead for any of us. Why would it matter if I follow?"
