Sailing along

I've been quiet this week but all has been well, mostly uneventful. On Monday evening, we did have both sets of parents over for a dinner consisting of potato latkes, applesauce, and swedish meatballs. We did a little gift exchanging for Hanukkah as well. It was a really nice time- I'm glad that it no longer seems a rarity to get the parents together.

Work has been totally manageable this week and should be next week, too. My boss just wants to tie up any loose ends before our week-long winter break. I can't say it enough- I love working at a school ;) We're supposed to go out to lunch together this afternoon, and then my building has a holiday party at 3pm with a casino theme.

That said, it's time for the usual Friday Fivers...

From the altfriday5:

1. Do you like to cook or bake? Not really.

2. If so, what are your favorite things to cook? If not, do you do it anyway (out of necessity or other reasons)? I do it to help S out sometimes, as she normally cooks dinner. Every now and then I'll actually want to cook to try out a new recipe or at least make cookies.

3. Whatever your level of cooking skill, how/where did you learn it? I learned really basic things from my parents. Beyond that, I just followed the directions on the recipes or S has taught me.

4. Would you rather cook only for yourself, for yourself and a friend, or for a crowd? Why? Myself and one other person. Otherwise it hardly seems worth the work, and cooking for a large group stresses me out. lol.

5. Do you wish you had opportunity/need to cook more or less in your daily life? I already cook very little so I probably shouldn't answer this. lol.

From thefridayfive:

1. Pick one label that you think does describe you (race, religion, hobby, etc.) Spitfire.

2. Pick one label that is often put on you, that you really think is inaccurate. "Little" (read: unintimidating, soft-spoken, weak, etc, not size-wise)

3. Pick one label you wish could be put on you. Genius. lol.

4. What is one kind of label that you think is universally wrong to use (race, gender, height)? Any labels that are used to put someone down or used as double-standards (all those racist words as well as "whore", "kike", etc). I especially hate the word "fag." Not that I've never used a word like these though... It's also not a wise thing to call people "retarded."

5. Labels, used intelligently, can be a convenient rhetorical shorthand for identifying how a given person will fit into (or react to) a given situation. Labels, used incorrectly, can be an excuse for dismissing the differences still inherent in the people to whom the label is applied. Discuss. How insightful. I agree. I think labels can help or hurt us depending on how we use them, but I know I find labels quite useful under normal circumstances.
