ooooh it really has been a while, hasn't it?

yesterday...or should i say in the early hours of this morning i finally finished one of the many paintings sitting gathering dust around my house...this one was a painting for my sister's birthday last year but i got so frustrated with trying to get it to look like the image in my head that i just couldn't stick at it for very long...but it is now complete :D and i am sooo happy!

I spent much time over last weekend and Monday night painting and re-painting and with some awesome guidance from my amazing husband...added a beautiful purple/pink glow to what up to that point had been a quite bland colour scheme and i finally signed my name to the finished artwork!

This painting was so hard for me because i decided to go for a full figure piece...not really my strong point but i wanted to try it. I kept it small...roughly A4 size and painted on canvas using acrylics.

The skin tone was especially hard as i tried to emphasize some shadows. I tried mixing some red and white to get a good pink for the glow on the gun but i just couldn't get the luminous hue i wanted...scott suggested i try the Warhammer 40k paints we have...so i gave it a go and it worked! The purples and pinks are so vibrant and when i applied it thinly like a wash over the armour and face i was able to get a good glow effect. I'm definately gonna try using them more in the future...only for small areas mind as the tubs are tiny...but i would only really use them when an area calls for something especially glowy :P Overall im pretty happy with how it turned out although i can see that the stance isn't really all that exciting or dynamic...but maybe in the future i can push myself a bit more with that.
