I thought I had posted here after joining a few months ago but I can't find it. Maybe I flaked with all the wedding planning but I gathered a lot of great advice from reading other people's posts. Thank you!
The Big Event
Getting ready. I hate curling irons! I am always sure I will get burned!
Ed and my grandmother in the parking lot. She loves him so I love him more!
Ed didn't get to see my dress till the day of. I snuck up behind him while he was having his picture taken.
He loved it.
After the first look, we took a bunch of pics and then did a quick rehearsal for the ceremony.
My dad walked me down the aisle and I was too scared to look at anyone but Ed or the preacher, our friend Graham.
Graham's sermon was amazing. First of all, he read it off his ipad which makes my geek heart swell. Second of all, he talked about the zombie apocalypse, comics, our love for each other and how amazing we were as a couple.
The ceremony was followed by the wine hour in the beautiful terrace room.
We got to see the ice sculpture.
Ed and I got a sneak peak of the reception room before everyone else. This was my 1st chance to see the room all set up and it was PERFECT! The centerpieces looked so good. I hadn't seen them since before Ed brought them to his grandfather's house to spray paint.
I was in love with the room and the cake with our x-box avatars on top.
Each table had a different color lantern to represent the Lantern Corps in the "Green Lantern" comics. The favors matched the tables.
We got a picture of us dancing.
We then hightailed it out of there so the guests could go in and we could make our entrance.
During the reception, the DJs were not that great but we still danced our butts off.
I put on my green lantern sneakers about halfway through the reception.
This caused quite a stir.
My dad and I had our father/daughter dance.
The bouqet was tossed.
The bridesmaid bouquet:
The friends we made because of our love of Kevin Smith movies:
Cake cutting:
We also sang my grandma "happy birthday" but no pics of that yet.
By the time the reception was over and people were leaving, I was exhausted and my head was spinning. Everyone came over to say bye and I was being pulled every which way. We were glad for just a moment to lay down!
Ceremony Music:
Pre-Processional - Batman Theme by Danny Elfman
Processional - Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness by Smashing Pumpkins
Wedding March
Recessional - Theme from Green Lantern First Flight
Reception Music:
Bridal Party Entrance Song - Unbelievable by EMF (not a love song but we like the beat)
Our Entrance: Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen
First Dance - Stand by Me by Ben E. King
The Vendors
Jericho Terrace -- Outstanding. They took care of all our needs and anticipated things we hadn't even thought of. The food was excellent and I would recommend them to anyone. The cost was about $100/pp after taxes and considering you get way too much food, bridal attendants, a maitr d' (who they recommend a separate tip for), a bridal suite, open bar, valet parking and more ... I think it is worth the price.
Amendola Florist -- Also outstanding. Virginia did an amazing job with the flowers at a really great price. She also threw in little extra surprises like the Green Lantern comic covers she attached to the bouquets. Ed built the centerpieces himself and Virginia gave us a great deal on the flowers, even adding more after the fact. She quoted us about $1k less than the other florists we saw. There are apparently 2 Amendola florists in LI so if you want to check her out, go by the address on the site.
Unblinking I Photography - We hired Megan for both our engagement and wedding photos and while it's obviously too early to see the wedding photos, the engagement photos were perfect. Although based in West Virginia, Megan is willing to travel and if you can get her, then you better snap her up! She's had 9 weddings this season so far. One was for a friend's wedding which happened after ours and I totally squeed when I saw her. She did post some shots to her
studio's facebook and we loved them all.
Body Rock DJ-The only vendor I WOULD NOT recommend. While people had fun dancing, the dj was not very good. He would abruptly cut off songs before starting a new one and only played a couple of Latin songs even though we specifically asked for a mix of Spanish and English music. Also, they did not sync the music on the montage correctly. They also played "Pass the Dutchie" during the dinner hour. A song about pot isn't really wedding appropriate even if it made me laugh. The only saving grace is that they played popular songs that everyone loved and the dance floor stayed pretty packed throughout the event.
Lotus Bridal - The women working here were great. They were always available to answer questions and I found my dress, bolero material and veil here. I did panic when it seemed like I wasn't going to have time to order the material for my bolero but they made sure I had what I needed and always knew exactly who I was when I called. The seamstress they work with is apparently from Kleinfeld's and she is the one who sewed together my bolero from scratch.
