14 Day Progress Post

I can't believe it's almost here! We've been engaged for almost a year and a half (our original date didn't work out) and planning for most of it. Now, it's down to the wire and things are getting exciting. We're finishing up the DIY projects, meeting with the caterer Monday, and doing the final walk through at the venue this week.

Some highlights:
- I had previously posted when I was being a bridezilla about my wedding party. Well, the original person did end up saying no, so I asked a friend from Temple and she was ecstatic. It was really a lovely response and I'm so happy she'll be the one signing our ketubah.
- my dress is being altered, for much less than I thought (had to add sleeves). I went to about 7 places, tried on tons of dresses, and had some horrendous experiences. But finally found a dress, obviously. The Fiancee, however, was in and out of David's Bridal in 2 hours with a dress off the clearance rack. Finally, her hatred of shopping paid off- quick decision maker!
- the centerpieces aren't working out how I originally envisioned (dish gardens of succulents), so we're going with the cactus theme and just buying little cacti, one for each table, to set next to one of those double sided frames from Ikea. There will be votives spread over the rest of the table. We were going to name each table after a location and put little pictures and stories on them, but The Fiancee vetoed that idea last night and so now we're just going with numbers I'll design myself. I love her dearly, and I want her to be involved, but it's kinda frustrating when it's two weeks out and this is the first time she opens her mouth :)

To Do still
- the table seating chart, which is really intimidating me. I designed all the paper products, but crafty stuff still alludes me. We're going to frame some posterboard and write the names on them interestingly somehow...
- find a suitable box for our 'time capsule' guest book...I'm thinking I'll just buy one of those plain boxes at Michael's and ask The Fiancee to spray paint it gold, like she's going to do for the easels we're using
- find a makeup artist! I am sooo last minute on this one. I contacted three folks from a list that I narrowed down, and hopefully I'll be able to do trials this week. We'll see.

Some feedback from you folks would be lovely on....
- should we have flowers for our parents? It's not too much of an added expense, but they don't seem to really care...and I'm not sure if I do....
- should I wear jewelry to the reception? Can't wear it at the ceremony, but it might be nice at the reception, and probably before at the photos. I'm worried I'll look out of place with everyone else wearing something.
- a friend is playing the violin at the ceremony and another is doing my hair, so I got them $50 certificates at Target. Is that enough? Should I get them something personalized as well? Is there some sort of 'standard'?
