Ceremony time

May 21, 2010 14:35

Hey gals and guys! So I went to a (gorgeous, amazing, tear-jerking, etc.) wedding this weekend. The invitation said the ceremony began at 4:30 p.m. We got there at 4:15, and the ceremony didn’t start until 5. I didn’t mind...I mean, I understood why...people were trickling in long after 4:30 (we were among the first to arrive) and a few people even ( Read more... )

Yeah I messaged her on Facebook about it to find out if it was deliberate, but she is in Panama on her honeymoon so I know I won’t hear back for a bit! :p

Also, your icon is so fitting to this reply. :o) I love PatF and Charlotte!

We'll be putting 12:00 on our invites, expecting people to come between 12:00 and 12:30. Our venue actually suggested this, saying that it ensures that people are relatively on-time! :)

Welcome! :) We were surprised when we heard that, but we figured no one would be upset with 1/2 an hour, it would allow others to trickle in, and we could have as many people there on time as possible. <3

It'd drive me nuts, too. But I'm one of those responsible people that always shows up to events at least 15 minutes early.

Yeah I get you guys, and I think it’s rude too...but knowing my family and some of my friends, lol...they aren’t disrespectful, just a little clueless…so I guess I have to figure out if the rudeness outweighs the preparedness. xD Thanks for the input.

I am, too, but I admit that I'd rather the time be arranged to accommodate late people than be constantly interrupted during the ceremony by latecomers. That irritates me more than anything. :)

We put the correct time on the invitation, but we also said when the doors to the venue opened. ("Doors open at two, we'll be wed at three / So please come promptly if you'd like a seat") Make sure there's plenty of music playing (we selected a whole album to play between opening the doors and the wedding party's entrance) and people will chat, I'm sure. A few of my friends did show up just as our wedding cars arrived, but that wasn't a problem. When we were waiting for the musical cue to enter the venue, one of our guests was leaving the toilet so I tutted him for wanting to upstage me! It was funny, though.

We ended up starting around 7:10, and our invites said 6:45. Oh well. The Ketubah signing went a little bit long, and so did our pre-ceremony photos...so basically everything got pushed back, haha. But we had musicians playing during the seating time. I don't think anyone minded... and a few people were STILL late.

I also got married in LA, where traffic is always horrendous. I attended a wedding in Orange County a while ago, and driving there was such a nightmare...we ended up being 15 minutes late, but thank goodness the wedding didn't start on time!! Eek.
