Most weddings I've been to have provided a table or something for both the ceremony and reception for gifts to be left at.

I've never seen one at a ceremony...it seems sort of odd to put a gift table in a church (for those who have church weddings).

Most people took things to the reception, but there has just generally been a place at the ceremony for the people who just brought it in already, weren't making it to the reception, etc. I've sometimes seen just the last pew on one side used for gift collecting.

Oh, interesting! Maybe I just haven't paid close enough attention.

There is usually a table set up for gifts. Guests set their gifts on the table and head in to the reception. The gifts are loaded into a car [usually a bridesmaid, groomsman or the couple's parents] and brought back to your home or theirs for you to pick up the next day]. Card boxes are for just that…cards containing cards, cash, checks, etc.

Yeah, usually there is a table or something. If there's someone you're working with at the restaurant, you might want to ask them to take any cards w/money you get and put them in a secured location, particularly if your restaurant will be open to the public. I've heard sad stories about gifts being stolen :(

This.

However, many venues won't touch the card box because THEY don't want to be accused of stealing. A family member or close friend should be put in charge and introduced to the restaurant manager/wedding coordinator so they know who is allowed to touch the box.

You set up a table for presents. The people who want to give you money, write a check and put inside a Happy Wedding Day card and in envelope. Seal it and put in the box you set up on the table for envelopes.

I am Russian too and few of my Russian friends did that. If you are doing a wedding website you can explain the set up there so your Russian friends/relatives know whats going on
