FH proposed on 2 days before our 2 year anniversary together. It wasn't anything super exciting, he didn't even have the ring yet, but I love him anyway....
Dan and I last summer (I think...) We're a bit older now, I guess...
We went to high school together, but didn't start dating till he was in his freshman year of college, and I was in my senior year of high school. I don't know if we count as high school sweethearts or not.
I am having 3 bridesmaids
My MOH, Kelsey, and I have been best friends since freshman year of highschool (hooray!) and she is a fantastic compliment to my planning style. I am a dreamer, very much of a planner, but not really a doer. She is midly obessive compulsive when it comes to organization, and is a master of the to-do list. I think this will work out well.
My brother's girlfriend of 3 years (she's been dating Greg longer than I've been dating Dan!!!), Heather, who is one of the most amazing people I know, and I wouldn't dream of NOT including her. I know it seems weird to have her in the wedding since she and Greg aren't even engaged, but she's such a huge part of our family, and a pretty close friend of mine.
And Finally....
My extra beautiful cousin Melanie. She is about 9 months younger than me, so we've always been in the same grade at school and everything, and my paretns used to babysit her during the summers, so she's just always been around. She is right between my brother and I, so she and heather get along really well too, which works out well. Kelsey, Heather, Melanie and I all went to school together, so everyone is well aquainted with eachother, which makes life much easier.
FH has said thata he wants to have 4 groomsmen. He's not sure who they will be yet, but he's working on it, I guess. I posted a little while ago about his his
dilema in choosing a best man He ended up picking Finn (Alex.... Finn is his middle name, but it's what he more commonly goes by), whom I felt was clearly the more responsible of the two, so that's a plus. Finn was extremely happy to be asked, and I have a feeling he and My MOH will get along fairly well, which always helps. His runner up, Blair, is also a likely choice for a groomsman. FH said he will be getting to it soon....
I officially asked my sister Anna to be my flower girl, and she ran around the house yelling and screaming, but my mom informed me that while it was partially due to excitement, it was also time for her second dose of ADHD meds. What a let down!
My adorable flower girl (the string is from a balloon that she was clearly very excited about). She is convinced that we are twins, since our names both start with A (I'm Amelia), and we are both left handed. If only I had known those were the criteria!!!
Ok... on to things that are not people:
I am officially done with finals, and I now have time to look into nice things....
My colors are Goldenrod, Burgundy and Green. I don't really have a theme, but I'm trying to incorporate my mother's massive obsession with the Irish culture (she'll be disappiointed if I don't include it), and FH's Fraternity (Phi Kappa Tau). It's kind of difficult, actually...
I am considering this dress from David's Bridal:
I've haven't tried it on yet (I don't go home for another 3 weeks, then I have all summer!!!), but the style is what I'm looking for, and the back is gorgeous. My grandmother has graciously offered to pay for my dress, as she did for my mother and aunts, so I'm very excited that I don't have to worry about that cost. It's a huge one to cross off my list.
I haven't really decided on bridesmaids dresses yet. Since my girls are all generally the same age as me, they are about as broke as me, so I don't want to make them pay for a dress they hate. I am planning on letting them do some trying on, and letting me know their opinions and we will go from there.
My flower girl will likely be wearing repurposed first communion dress. Since my parents are helping to pay for the wedding, and I wanted Anna to wear a white dress anyway, I think it's probably alright to use it twice, especially since her first communion will be about a mont before the wedding. Everything will be fine as long as she doesn't spill (EEEEK!!!!!)
For Cake, I'm planning on doing cupcakes, as FH and I are on a pretty tight budget. My mom is quite skilled at cake decorating, and I think we can do a wonderful job ourselves without paying incredibly inflated wedding prices.
I'm trying to find ideas for simple centerpieces. I'd appreciate help with this. I am looking for something low cost, but small too. I don't like when you are sitting at a table and you can't see the person across from you.... I don't want to do flowers either...
My mom and I have been looking at halls, but my dad wants us to have it at my house. I don't think we will be able to accomidate as many people as we need to there though. FH has a huge family (mine totals around 40 something if EVERYONE comes), and I want to be able to invite our friends. He doesn't want to spend the money on getting a place, but my mom and I think it would be worth it just to walk away without cleaning everything up.
FH and I are supposed to meet with the priest at my parent's church sometime this summer. My parents have insisted that we have a Christian service, even though FH and I are not Christian, or they will not attend. My parents support is extremely important to me, so I'll put up with their crap. FH's parents are likely going to want a Catholic service anyway (they are a little slow on the uptake, and have only recently accepted that FH and I are actually getting married, and telling him not to do it will not fix the "problem". It's not me, they just think we aren't ready. I think it's because FH is the only child left, and his mom is reluctant to let go of her baby).
And while the inside of the Church is beautiful, I am not certain the pastor there will be willing to actually perform the service, as my mother took the liberty of telling him that FH and I do not practice. My mom then asked what FH and I would do if the priest said no, and I was very tempted to snap back that we would simply do what everyone else who isn't Catholic does, i.e. not get married in a Catholic church. I held it in.... clap for me
We're still working on food, but I'm more than likely going to leave that to FH.... lol. I'll let him at least help with something.
We are going to try to buy flowers in bulk from Sam's Club, since that's much cheaper, and I'm actually pretty proficient at arranging flowers.
We are getting our rings from my grandmother. She has generously offered to gift us her and my grandfather's wedding bands. They are yellow gold, and I don't know necessarily what they look like, but I am more than happy to accept them based soley on their sentimental value. It was an extremly generous offer.
My MOH and I are going to be doing some wedding stuff in about 3 weeks when I get home from school. I'm so excited to really start. I only have about 2 months to REALLY plan, so I want to make the best of it.
Here's to hoping everything goes as planned!!!
If you guys have any suggestions I'd love to hear them!
