Anything else you'd like to tell us?: So many weddingy things under the cut!

We are almost 100% set on a venue, the Farm at South Mountain in Phoenix. It is an amazing space, it is an artists retreat with a gallery and studio, a homeopathic site, there are three award winning restaurants there that will be catering our meal, there's an organic garden that you pay to pick, and in the center is a pecan grove and a canopy surrounding by twinkle-lit trees where we will be getting married and having our reception. It backs up to South Mountain and the whole thing just has a beautiful, peaceful feel.

We are having seven people on each side, tentatively, although I feel like that's a huge number. I have three older sisters that are my best friends, and then four very close friends of mine that have been my best friends since I was seven years old and who are still like sisters to me no matter where we are in the world. He has two brothers, some Marine Corps best friends and lifelong friends so it just ended up with seven on each side- plus his niece and nephew and a little boy that is the son of close friends. So we'll roll with it!

We are planning decor mainly around the venue and this centerpiece inspiration here:

But with colorful Gerber daisies instead of roses.

Also we are having Mariachis during the cocktail hour and to play during the father daughter dance to represent my Mexican heritage and...well we like Mariachis haha.

We got engaged on Feb 21st while playing Catchphrase with my family-- I guess my family was waiting for him to do it and he tried to make me guess the phrase "proposal" and then all of a sudden was on one knee with a ring saying "Yeah, will you marry me!" It was totally unexpected for that moment and very fun and "us" (I'm not the most sensitive person in the world you'll find lol.) Here is the e-ring:

He had custom bands made for either side of it that match the band on the e-ring. It's exactly what I want due to my strange attraction to geometry and right-angles, plus it has a nice vintage look.

The song we are walking down the aisle to is a song that we heard when we were fifteen and were at a youth group camp. The singer came to sing at our camp because he is a big Young Life supporter, and he gave an after hours concert and he sang that song. I was only fifteen and definitely not serious about FH but when we heard that song I just kind of knew that our story, wherever it would end up, would sure include an interesting journey, and it goes perfectly with a wedding procession if you listen to it :)

We are working with a budget of $15,000 from the parents (a little over if needed) and any super-extras FH will take care of.

We were thinking of August but apparently it's hot here in Arizona in August (who knew? I've only lived here my whole life!) So we decided on the spring break from my PhD program. He is starting his second enlistment in the Marines and will be transitioning into being in an officer program just before March and then moving down to Phx to live and go to school.

The big dilemma was on MOH, but I have decided on the sister that I have always been exceptionally close to as a child and now (although we are all very close) and who absolutely loves wedding things and details and who I know will be an amazing help and who will be very excited about the whole process.

The other dilemma was whether or not to get married in the Church, as I am a life-long Catholic and FH converted (while in boot camp, out of the blue) to Catholicism a few years ago. We decided against it because as I am an Islamic Studies scholar and he was a police trainer in Iraq we both obviously have a deep affection for Islam and the Arab world and wanted to have hints of that in our wedding- such as a reading by Rumi which our Catholic Church wouldn't allow- or even things as pre-recording music like we were set on from Brandon Heath. We though it would be more representative of us to have a Christian wedding at our venue and then if we chose to get the wedding blessed in the Catholic Church at a later time.

Oh, and last but not least, here is my inspiration board and the happy couple- it may be a bit fuzzy, sorry about that! But you get the general feel.
