My FH is currently on a 3 week lay-off from his job due to a slow-down in production and I am a recent college graduate who is working at a fast food joint during the week and a group home every other weekend. Neither job pays well and the hunt for my first professional job does not seem to be getting any better due to the fact that I don't have enough "experience" for people to want to interview me, let alone hire me. (I graduated with a bachelors in Social Work this past May.) My parents will be financing about $3000 toward the wedding. FH and I are financing the rest... which it looks like will come out to about $3000 as well. Due to our job situations and some past issues, neither of us has any savings at this point and the remaining $3K will be going on credit cards.
So. What's my point? The point is... it doesn't look like we will be able to afford to take a honeymoon if we are left to finance it on our own. Our original plan was to rent a cabin in Door County, WI for 4 or 5 days which would've been about $800.00. And I was looking so forward to it. But... I just don't think our financial situation will allow even for that. It's kind of looking like we'll be able to do an evening in a hotel on our wedding night and that's it.
I've seen a lot of talk on here the past several months about honeymoon registries. And this seems like a good idea, really. However, I haven't really seen much mention on how a person goes about starting one. So I suppose I've just taken a really roundabout way to ask -- where have some of you gone to start honeymoon registries? How do they work -- and do they seem to be something that your friends/family/guests use? I would really like to be able to take a honeymoon, even if it's only for a few days. We both have children from previous relationships and it would be nice to have a get-away for just the two of us. Any suggestions/information/etc would be very much appreciated.
Thanks and sorry if this made no sense :o) I'm feeling rather sorry for myself today. haha.
