A few weeks ago we met with a
prospective photographer.
We would get two photographers, they'd be available to us for 11 hours, and a DVD with all images (only 4x6 printable though). That, for $1000, seemed quite reasonable. We left showing high interest and a contract in hand to go home with and review, sign, and send back with the deposit.
Fast forward a few weeks to present and we're just about ready to send off the contract and deposit, so I re-read the contract and had a question. So I shoot him an email, which previously were replied to quickly. A few days pass, I send another, a few more days pass, so I gave him a call. He's a bit socially awkward/very quiet, so it's hard to read him over the phone (heck, even in person), so I couldn't tell how he felt about my contract question (if the original images and their printing rights indeed were to be released to us 1 year from the wedding).
So of course I get all worried that we're not his type of clients (we want the images and rights, not prints/albums/etc.--which is where they make some more money). And I get more worried that he hadn't replied in a timely manner, and that he's quiet and timid.
I think, for peace of mind, it might be time to search for a new photographer. Trying to find a wedding photographer in the Chicago area to give us the images to print ourselves for less than $1000 is proving damn near impossible though. Any suggestions? I've already scoured Craigslist and other photographer databases. Help?
