That time of year again (and a challenge!!)

Oct 02, 2005 08:34

Yes it is... now that Katrina and Rita and RESCU and everyone else has your money, it's time to ask again for donations to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.
For those of you just joining the program (already in progress), this is a two-day, 39.3 mile walk to support the Avon Foundation. The Avon Foundation collects money from various (nefarious?) sources and passes them along to people who can make a difference.
In 2004, I trained for the AWBC but got sick and couldn't walk. I also managed to raise over $3K for breast cancer research in the process.
In 2005, I trained and managed to stay healthy (wooo!), so was able to walk the entire 39.3 miles and (barely) not be dead at the end of it. This time, I'd raised just over $4K to support this essential research.
Well, this year I've got a challenge for all of YOU! The Challenge (official rules)
  1. Each individual(*) who donates $50 will receive a raffle ticket (possibly virtual, but I'll work out the mechanics after I get a couple of donators!) Multiples of $50 get multiple tickets (e.g., $100 donation gets two tickets, $250 donation gets five, etc.).
  2. I'm setting a lofty goal of $10,000. If I reach this goal, then a raffle ticket will be drawn. The person whose ticket is drawn gets to choose... how short my hair will be.
Yes, that's right... I'll cut my hair (down to corporate-cut if requested)... but I'll only do it for someone who has donated (and won the raffle).
So if you want my hair to stay long, donate. If you want my hair to go short or even shorter, then donate. Winner to be announced far and wide if it happens.
The Fine Print
  • You are specifically granted permission to distribute this link to anyone you think might be interested in supporting the search for a cure.
  • Drawing to be held on or after April 15, 2006 (but before April 30, 2006).
  • (*)Donations must be made by an individual. If your employer does corporate charitable matching, I'll allow the extra (matched) funds *only* if the matching funds come through before April 15, 2006. However, donations made by organizations (like Team Wench) don't count -- sorry, it'd be too confusing to figure out which member of the organization got to pick!
  • You need not be present to win. You just need to donate. Yes, there's a "purchase" necessary to win!
  • The official total used will be the one found on my official AWBC Walk Page. If they're late processing funds, they don't count. So donate early and often! :)
  • Other rules to be added as situations arise. If you have questions, ask away! Edits/Addenda
  • Organizational donations (like TW) do count towards the TOTAL; they just don't get raffle tickets.
  • All rules updates will be posted to MY LIVEJOURNAL (unless I get inspired and put it on my Avon site -- but if I do, there will be a pointer here on LJ).
  • This fundraising stunt is, in no way, authorized, supported, or sponsored by any corporate giant. This goes double if they have lots of money and/or lawyers and triple if they might be offended by this stunt.
  • Yes, I'm really serious about the hair... if you donate and your ticket is drawn and you say so, I'll end up as the SHHF.
  • Beard and moustache are, for the purposes of this raffle, to be considered "head hair" and are "on the auction block" as well.
  • Clarification: I get to choose the style of cut -- you only get to choose the length. No mullets (John!), no mohawks, no bowl cuts, etc. Likewise, I retain veto rights to certain beard styles -- clean shaven is okay, but "amish" is right out. (*shudder*)
  • Any hair shorn is still mine to dispose of as I see fit. Currently, I'm thinking about about eBay. See the comments below for reasons I'm unlikely to give to LoL.
  • For $10K, I'll willing to go as short as a corporate cut. At $11K, I'll be willing to shorten it to a buzz cut. And yes, ladies and gentlemen, the rumours are true. At $12K, I'll be willing to pull out the razor and down to cue ball.
  • If the winning ticket-holder prefers, I'll leave it long (or any length in between). It's entirely up to them.

cancersucks, fundraising
