I have been advised that I start taking more personal pride in what I do. So here’s me…tooting my own horn.
I’m two thirds done the novel as of today. I’ll be working on it tonight after finishing installing the Adobe CS3 Web Suit to help with my graphic design business. Sometimes it really sucks only have one machine to work on.
Kel, the main character, has really kept me on my game making sure I really stay true to how a 14 year old girl behaves, thinks and reacts. I’ve said this before, but I never thought Harry P ever reacted like a kid in his situation. I was always more invested in the secondary characters and how they played into the story. It annoyed me that I was more upset that on of the Wesley twins died more than I was that Harry got hurt…or what have you. So I’ve taken great care in making Kel someone, and yes…she’s a real girl to me, that people care what happens to her. The character’s she interact with are not paper thin either. I’m doing a lot of layering to make sure each person has a little world of their own in her story. I love the Dresden Files for that very reason… a tertiary character in, say, book 2 could prove to be a major character by book 4.
Anywho…I’m rambling. I’m really, really proud of how far I’ve come on this, how the characters have grown and how much about the English language I’ve relearned in working on this. I think the best way kids could learn in school…is to have them write a novel or a story. I, personally, learn the how’s and why’s better once I’m in the much of it.
