[When Peter woke up, yawned, kissed his sleeping wife on the shoulder, clambered out of bed and walked towards the bathroom with his eyes shut... he immediately toppled down the stairs and landed on his face. Jumping up with alarm, his brain clicked awake, synapses firing, as he quickly listed the Wrongs in his ( Read more... )

How about this: You give me a pizza, and I'll clue you in to what's going on.

[Peter snaps his fingers. NOW he's getting somewhere! Someone with answers! And all he had to do was bring him...]

A pizza? ...Wait, where the heck am I supposed to get a pizza? I don't even know where...

Hey! Don't play games with me! YOU'RE the pizza restaurant here! Why don't YOU give you a pizza!

I dunno what game you're playing, but haven't you noticed anything weird about this place already?

You mean... like how there are all these pictures of me spread throughout the house, as if I've been living here for years? Or the fact that I'm on the phone with Not-Pizza-Guy-Guy? Or the fact that I'm even in this house to begin with?

...Nope. Nothing strange here.

You said you had some idea of what's going down here?

Bravo.

And yeah, I do. But now all this talk about pizza is making me hungry. Brign me something or invite me over for a bite, and maybe I'll explain.

[Peter hesitates. He doesn't even know this guy's name, or what his agenda is. He's offering to tell Peter what he wants to know, but at what cost? And with Peter at his current state, he has no idea whether he could take this guy on, if it came to that. Something smells fishy. And it ain't sardines. ...Hey, that's good! He should use that!]

Something smells fishy here, pal, and it ain't sardines. Why are you so... helpful? You don't even know who I am!

Well, it's obvious that you're just a noob who just woke up here so you ain't got any powers or shit.

And frankly, I'm just hungry 'cause I slept through breakfast. So how do you wanna handle this, dude?

[This guy's a bit of a jerk. Hm... and more talk about people losing powers... just how many metahumans are there in this place? Did he wake up in the Xavier Reservation for Screwed-Over Mutants or something?]

...Tell you what, pal. How about I just meet you somewhere... neutral. Is there a restaurant around here or anything? I haven't even left my sidewalk yet. The Milkman creeps me out.

Yeah, stay away from the Milkman. He's evil and poisons the milk or fills it with spiders.

Okay. How's about the diner?

[...Would that make eating cereal an act of cannibalism for Peter? Hm. Maybe closer to fratricide.]

Yes. The diner. Sounds open and... food-y. And I know exactly where that is...!

...No I don't, I'm sorry.

[Mart groans.]

Hell, I ain't good at directions. Just tell me where you live and I'll stop by.

[Peter hesitates, then speaks.]

...All right, fine. I live on Stone Street. Number 462. Come alone. I'll be watching you... uh...

Wait, who are you again?

[Mart chuckles.]

The name's Mart. Mart Vineyard. See you soon.

[Later, Peter'll hear a rather loud banging on his front door...]

[...Or so Mart thinks. Unbeknownst to him, Peter gave him the address of a house two doors down. Peter warily watches out his window for the first guy to head in that direction, sizing him up and wielding a baseball bat he found in a child's bedroom]

Hm... That must be this Mart person now. ...Well. I was right about the guy being fishy, that's for sure. But he doesn't look so tough. And hes here alone, so he probably doesn't want trouble. I think I'll sneak outside and pretend to have been waiting in their backyard.

[Mart knocks. No answer. Mart just annoyedly grunts and waits.]

[With great, almost comical care, Pete eaaaaases open the back door and tiptoes into the neighboring yard, picking his way around the hedges and cursing his sudden clumsiness. You really take proportionate agility of a spider for granted, until you lose it. He trips a little once in the yard and stumbles out into view]

...um. ...Hello. I was just out in the yard. Doing... [he's still holding the bat] ...baseball. [bat drops]
