Remembering Misogyny and Assumptions
This was triggered by a post over on Bored Panda earlier in the day. I've likely recorded this before.
My father never allowed me to have friends stay over, never mind boyfriends 😕 That was discussed very early on in my teens that no boyfriends would be allowed to stay over. Thing is, I didn't have any boyfriends, he made them all up in his head. When we moved away from Matlock where I'd grown up in to hundreds of miles away in Swansea, the night before I left he wouldn't let me go out with my mates. Years later I learnt it was because he thought I might get pregnant 😠 I was 14. I'd never been kissed. I'd never shown the slightest interest in boys. He denied me the last night out ever with my mates because of His standards. I'm Asexual which I didn't know the name for until another three decades 🏳️🌈 He never did understand or care how damaging his presumptions and misogyny were. In my very late teens I was out until late at night, he was convinced I was out with boyfriends, whereas I was actually driving the moors alone at night, I fucking Loved that!!!!! I miss it like fury now I've not been able to drive for over twenty years. In the end he threw me out based on his beliefs and assumptions 😒
