Last Friday ended quite an amazing week for me, in a personal achievement way.
One: On Monday (Memorial Day), I earned my first-level instructor certification. I don't have any great ambition to be an instructor, but it could be fun. I didn't pass at the certification seminar a couple of weeks earlier, so I drilled on the forms and one-steps nearly daily and more than once a day. It worked. To keep them fresh, I'll take breaks outside at work, and I'll do the while, orange, and yellow forms and one-steps.
Two: On Wednesday, the final final results from the tournament year were, uh, finally posted, and I became state champ for my gender (male), age (40s), and belt (all color). I had go to (and perform well enough) an "extra" tournament.
Three: After 16 months of training, I earned my black belt on Friday night. I'd been to the ceremony before as someone who held boards for higher-ranked students to break, but this time, it was me breaking the boards. It felt kind of weird having that belt around my waist, and still does. Now the real training begins.
