Reverse engineering - Twins' Ski Cap

Aug 12, 2006 03:41

I'm in the mood for a reverse engineering project. I thought I'd bring up the perennial favorite and get some movement on it.

In way of beginning, I present to you all the obligatory ( screencaps )

reverse engineering, hat, knitting, character, reference pictures

Oh, and I forgot to mention: the wavy line is clearly upside down, not that any of you couldn't notice that for yourselves. =D For some reason, it was easier for me to work on that way.

The real question is--do you think the diamond motif is upside down or right side up? =P

As it appears to me, the repeats of the wavy motif aren't perfectly centered over the diamond motifs, either. There's got to be at least a 1-st shift.

Ah, you are correct. I wasn't thinking about gauge, my bad. (Am also sleep deprived--stayed out late for a concert, went to bed around 12:30, and woke up at about 6:30 for church and work. Six hours is the dividing line between functional and fuzzy for me.)

Lovely, lovely. I know I have cream yarn and I'm sure there's blue somewhere--after all, I made a Ravenclaw scarf and I'm not going to use *all* the leftovers for my house unity scarf. =D I'm pretty excited that our charts seem to match. Good luck on your swatch and it seems we have made some definite progress indeed!

argh, I've swatched for gauge 3 times and have decided that it's got to be either a worsted weight worked very tight or a DK worked more normally. Unfortunately, I haven't got any DK in the right colors! But essentially, I think it needs around 3" negative ease or else the lateral stretch of stockinette causes it to be too loose when it's worn. Actually, I know this for a fact as I started working on it at 5st/in (hitting gauge perfectly) and it was huge on my not inconsiderable 23.5" noggin. So now I'm working it up again on US#2! in order to get between 5.6 and 6st/in. argh....
