So, I'm going to wedding #3 next weekend in Rhode Island and it will be wonderful. Then wedding #4 is in Kansas City, KS on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. I have a one-way ticket to KC and now I'm thinking ... why not rent a car, drive to another city after the wedding, hang out there Sunday, and fly back from there Monday? Couchsurfing; look for someone who's up for coffee and sounds interesting and sane.

If you do come to Chambana, we'd be happy to see you though I'm on bed rest and it's unclear when the twins will arrive in this world so you'd probably most get to see hukuma if you wanted to go out and see our little town. Or you could come here and see the dogs and me in bed. Not sure that'd be all that exciting for you.

Yeah I was looking at flights to MPLS and they all go through O'Hare so, hey, why not just stop there and have another random day in Chi? If you'd be in town during the long weekend we could hang out, and I could even get a hotel this time.

What long weekend is this? I'll be out of town next sat and the last week of Sept but otherwise should be around. I would totally be up to hang out and it is OK TO STAY WITH ME (unless it's the weekend I'm moving to another unit in my building, which hasn't been determined yet)

Labor Day weekend, I'd be there Sunday Sep 5 to Monday Sep 6. And I'd love to stay with you again. :) Flights from KC one-way are like $85 and it's a 90-minute flight, so Chi totally wins as best option. I will get to work on making it happen!

Minneapolis is nice that time of year. You'll be able to get a sweet downtown hotel room in any midwestern city for cheeeeap that weekend since no business travelers will be around.

I've got lots of peeps in MSP if you do decide to go there. A few in Chicago, but not much. Both MSP and CHI have decent transit from the airport to downtown. There probably won't be many exciting shows or anything. Museums should be open though. Both MSP and CHI have great museums.

On Sunday driving into MSP would be fine -- just a few minutes or less of traffic delay. Driving to Chicago always seems to include a random 45 minutes of sitting on the freeway in gridlock. The land will be lush and ready for harvest.

Thanks. I think it's back to Chi this time. I'd love to do a proper Mpls trip because it does sound so cool!

ya know, my better half was across the river, in kansas city, mo, for work last year, and came back telling stories of a surprisingly pleasant, metropolitan, hip town that she did not expect to find before coming there. of course, ymmv; i'm sure that our standards for "hip and metropolitan" have been lowered substantially after 2 yrs in central nj

i'll poke her for leads on stuff to do there

Thanks! I get in early Friday afternoon and the wedding isn't until Saturday evening so I do have time to kill in KC and would love sightseeing tips.

N pleads amnesia as to any details, but of what she does recall:

- The area around UMKC is nice

- There is nice walking along the river (on the MO side)

- There is an artsy district with tasty ethnic food (n.b.: nicer than central NJ -- this may not say much)

All 3 areas are not too far from downtown, though the downtown itself is full of bums and empty of interestingness
