FIRST VACATION TOGETHER

"Damn it, Steven." Danny looked around after Steve removed the blindfold and shook his head. "The beach? You surprise me with a so-called fantastic getaway and we get away to where we live with the sand and the water and the sand and those sounds that can keep a man awake?"

"It's beautiful."

"Steve, it's the beach."

"It's an island."

"There's sand and ocean and it looks exactly like it does from your yard." Danny walked to the water and looked down the beach in both directions. "Not even a boardwalk."

"Because it's quiet."

"Yeah, quiet. Super quiet. There's no vacation sounds. No souvenirs." Danny shook his head as he felt the water cover his feet and wash away.

Steve stood behind Danny and wrapped his arms around him. "Babe?"

"Yeah?"

"It's secluded." Steve kissed Danny's neck and emphasized his last fact once more. "It's secluded."

"This could be the best vacation I've ever had." Danny smiled as he leaned back into Steve. "Thank you, Babe."

"You're welcome, Daniel."

SUNRISE

"Come on, Danny. You have to wake up."

"Five more minutes, Gracie."

Steve laughed. "Babe. You told me last night we could watch the sunrise, cross the island today and then watch the sunset. If we don't leave soon, we're going to miss the sunrise and I'll wake you up early again tomorrow."

Danny moved the covers away from his face. "What?"

"Sunrise, Babe. You agreed."

"I was drunk."

"You were sober. You were awake and we hadn't even had sex yet."

"I was delirious from lack of food." He sat up and looked at Steve.

"No, we ate, we watched the water, I suggested the sunrise and you said we should make a day of it so we could get the sunrise as well as the sunset. Don't give me that look, I know you remember. I asked you about twenty times last night if you were sure and each time you said yes. It was vacation and it would be fun." Steve grinned, grabbed Danny's hands and pulled him off the bed. "Now, get dressed and let's go before we have to do this all over again tomorrow."

"Fine." Danny agreed as he wondered why on earth he would agree to something so asinine much less, suggest it become an entire day together out roaming thing.

They made it to the beach as the sun began to creep up into the sky. "God this is beautiful."

"Yeah, yeah. Maybe it was a good idea. And maybe the sunset will be just as beautiful." Danny kissed Steve and backed away as he tilted his head. "Wait, how big is this island and how far are we going to have to travel to see this sunset tonight?"

Steve chuckled. "You'll be fine, Danny. And it will be worth it, I promise."

"It better be, Steven."

"Or what?"

"Or our next vacation is the mountains during winter."

"Deal."

OUR SONG

"Babe?"

"Yeah?"

"Do we have a song?"

"What?" Steve asked as he walked around the corner.

Danny grinned. "A song. Do we have a song? You know, one that fits us and reminds us why we're together."

"Crazy?"

"Patsy Cline's Crazy?"

"You know Patsy Cline?"

"I know a lot of music." He thought a moment about what other songs were out there with the word crazy and it hit him. "Hey!"

Steve laughed. "What?"

"We are not crazy. But we do need a song. Now think."

"Think, think, think. Just like Winnie the Pooh."

"You know Pooh bear?"

"I know a lot of books. And I'm thinking." Steve started to pace around the house and Danny followed.

"Anything?"

"Damn it, Danny. No, not yet. Some songs are cheesy and other songs I think of just don't feel right."

"We could go really cheesy and use Taylor's song."

"No, I will not use that one. Besides, we don't have a screen door."

Danny looked at the front door and laughed. "We do here."

"We're not using that song. Think of another one."

"Okay, so I promise I will come up with something before our vacation is over."

"Sounds like a plan."

Danny grinned. "You don't have one either, do you?"

"No, I've got nothing."

"You've got something. You've got homework. We have homework."

"Feels more like a pop quiz we didn't study for and we'll never pass."

"Have faith, my love, have faith."

SERENADE

"When I'm feelin' blue, all I have to do is take a look at you. Then I'm not so blue." Danny began to sing to Steve.

"Wait, what are you doing?"

"You interrupted me."

"I did not. Okay, maybe I did but what are you doing?"

"I am singing to you, Steven. This is our song and I learned it, word for word, been working on it the last two days and now I am singing it to you, dammit, because it is romantic." Danny flailed for the first time all week. "Just look what you made me do."

"Made you what? Those arms have a life of their own most days and that's nothing I made you do."

"Yes, made me. I was trying to be all romantic and you stopped me. You killed the moment."

Steve grabbed Danny and kissed him. When the kiss ended he pulled away and asked, "did that help?"

"Maybe."

"Can you finish the song?"

"Our song?"

"Yes, Groovy Kind of Love can be our song. Even if it is a little cheesy."

"Look, I listened to a lot of music while you were off on your jogs and swims and in such a limited amount of time, I'd say I did pretty good with my choice." Danny cleared his throat and finished their song for Steve.

Steve smiled. "I love you."

"I love you, too."

"Move in to my house."

"Excuse me?"

"I could have been a little more romantic, huh?"

"A bit. And phrasing it into a question could help."

"Daniel, would you please move in with me?"

"I like my place."

"I do too. It's a nice place."

"It's the first place I've had on that island that is nice and that I like."

"I know, but I love you and you love me."

"And please do not make that a song."

"What?"

"Please go a different route. Change up what you said because I am having terrible flashbacks of Grace's videos."

"Okay, so we love each other..." Steve waited a moment to make sure that was okay with Danny and continued when Danny nodded in agreement. "And I want to spend all my time with you and with Grace and Charlie and I think we should move in together."

"Why your place?"

"More room for all of us?"

"Yeah, makes sense." Danny took a deep breath, exhaled, and said, "okay."

"Okay?"

"Yes, Steven. I said okay. We'll move in."

Steve smiled. "Good. When?"

"When? I don't know, we're still on vacation and I am not going to think about that right now. Right now, I want to play our song on my phone and dance with you."

"Better plan." Steve said as Danny found the song and they danced the night away.

MOVING IN TOGETHER

"So we're completely leaving here and moving in with Uncle Steve?"

"Yes. Are you okay with that, Grace?"

"Yes! I love Uncle Steve and I love his house and..." She stopped and looked at her father. "Danno?"

"Yeah, Monkey?"

"You and Uncle Steve are together, together, right?"

"Yes."

"And that's why we're moving in with him, right?"

"Yes. Are you okay with that, too?"

"Yeah! It's Uncle Steve and you have loved each other for a long time." Grace turned and continued packing as her father watched.

"How'd you get so smart, Monkey?"

"School." She responded matter of fact. "Daddy, I know you and I saw how you looked at Uncle Steve."

"And how is that?"

"Like you loved him from the very beginning. You watched him and you listened to him. And you fought with him but it wasn't mean, it was nice and funny."

"Nice and funny?"

"Yeah, what's that word?"

"Banter, Gracie, banter." Steve answered for Danny.

"I didn't know you were stopping by today."

"Said you were packing. I knew Grace was here so I thought I would see if the two of you needed any help." He kissed Danny on the cheek before he walked to Grace and gave her a hug. "So, what about our fighting?"

"Banter, you said so yourself. And Grace said she knew I loved you from the very beginning."

"I did too."

"Well, if you knew that, you could have saved us both a lot of heartache and made a move a lot sooner."

"When have I ever done anything the easy way?"

"Good point."

"Do I need to leave? Or put in my ear buds?"

"Gracie!"

Danny laughed at the fact Steve looked shocked. "She's not a little girl anymore, Steve. Not a little girl."

"I know that." He shook his head and turned toward Grace. "No, you do not need to leave and you will not need your ear buds because we are going to pack and head on over to the house for supper."

"Pizza?"

"Of course, pizza. How else could we celebrate the fact that you're moving in?"

"I told you he'd get us pizza tonight."

"You played right into her hand. She's got you, Steven, she's got you."

"Yes she does." Steve smiled and realized it didn't matter one bit that Grace had him wrapped around her finger. He wouldn't have it any other way.

tis all...for now
