Okay, so I've had this one for a while now, but I'm only seriously sitting down to play it now.
Not sure why I decided to start it the way I did, but after playing through the introduction/tutorial maps I started level grinding my characters on the tutorial map getting each of them up to Level 10 before creating new characters - I've done this with all the humanoid characters I can possibly create at this point, one of each, and I've got everything except my Skulls up to 10.
Once I have them up to 10 I'm not entirely sure what I want to do. I'm debating charging into the story or using the Item World (assuming it's available at this point) to grind for money, mana, and of course levels. I've got a small army so it's a viable tactic. Still, I'm leery of doing that since I still actually want to finish the story-line on this game and move onto some of the others I've got. Thing is there's a lot of fun stuff I miss that way.
Oh well, I'll just wait and see.
Shifting gears to talk about gameplay mechanics, I have to say that I actually like what they've done with the skills in this game. While I will miss weapon mastery and the incremental increases they gave to things like damage and such, the tradeoff of skills not going insane with increased SP costs as they level is NICE. Especially since it opens up the use of Skulls and Mages early on in the game as opposed to making them massive chores to level until you hit mid-game and start getting some decent SP boosting items as Bonus prizes and just generally reaching the point where you can drop more than two or three damaging spells without burning through all your SP.
Evilities are nice also. I've heard of some other stuff that hasn't been unlocked yet so I'll wait until I actually get to them to comment.
