Episode Discussion: 4.08 "Ancient History"

Sep 04, 2012 20:24

I'm finally getting a post up before the episode airs! \o/

Here we are, just three episodes away now from the mid-season finale. What more will we find out about Sam? Will Peter decide to cross anymore lines for Neal, or is he really done with doing things 'off the book' for Neal? Time to find out! Share your thoughts once the episode is over. :-

This was fun. I was delighted to see Alex again. I'm glad she got away, and I hope we see her again. (Realistically, shouldn't Neal have been off the case as soon as it emerged that Alex was involved, because of their personal relationship?)

I enjoyed the Mozzie and Peter double act in Alex's suite, but I also like that Mozzie realised that Neal could be putting himself in danger and went to Peter about it.

But from Sam's point of view, assuming he's a good guy, I wouldn't want the FBI involved either. It was almost certainly the FBI that leaked Ellen's location and got her killed.

And Peter isn't exactly being discreet, is he? I don't think he had the right to tell Diana Neal's personal history without his permission.

ALEX! YAY, ALEX! She ruled. And the final scene between Neal and Alex reinforced my conviction that for Neal, morality = personal loyalty.

Neal impersonating Banksy made me laugh and laugh, especially the specific art he chose to make.

Mozzie and Peter's very uneasy alliance makes me want to smish them.

This season would be perfectly complete and more satisfactory without the daddy issues story arc. Regardless, I'm glad Neal decided that, having made his point that it's his life, he should watch the video with Peter and Mozzie. But why were they setting up the video machine at Peter's house? If Neal doesn't have a suitable TV, I'm sure Mozzie has a stash of VCR-compatible televisions to go with the stash of Betamax machines, and could bring both to Neal's apartment.

Neal getting arrested was totally fanservice. Neal getting arrested twice was a bit of misdirection, or maybe it's just me: I began to suspect that Barney Fife was a bent cop, interfering with the FBI operation to make sure the (real) criminals got away ( ... )

Didn't Alex give NYPD the tip both times, so that when she wanted to make her getaway all she had to do was lift both lots of loot from the NYPD evidence warehouse?

On the other hand, did Peter consider that arresting a member of the Greek government would certainly have diplomatic repercussions?

I think Peter would have arrested him and let the higher ups sort out his diplomatic status, except that with the loot gone he had no evidence.

Also, we now know that Neal's birthday is March 21. Or at least that's the date he claims.Or the date his Mom and Ellen told him. Do people in Witness Protection get new birthdays as part of their new identities? Neal wouldn't have been old enough to remember his real birthday. (How bored must Peter have been to have been reduced to looking up horoscopes ( ... )

She probably did, but of course there's no way to prove it.

How bored must Peter have been to have been reduced to looking up horoscopes?

Pretty darned bored. But it gave us some amusing banter, so it's okay.

it's a long time since there's been a tsar in Bulgaria

The last tsar of Bulgaria is still alive: His Majesty Tsar Simeon II of the Bulgarians. The tsardom was officially ended in 1946, but he never renounced his claim to the throne. His monarchist claims notwithstanding, he was elected Prime Minister in 2001, serving until 2005.
