I think it can be. I think it depends on how real you are with the other person and how real they are with you. I have online friends that I would consider real friends.
I believe you can! Certainly not all online relationships are true friendships, but neither are all offline relationships. There are plenty of mere acquaintanceships, as well as superficial, fake, and one-sided relationships in which one person sees it differently than the other does. But if both of you open up to each other with honesty and intimacy and are there for each other in times of need, I consider that a friendship whether on- or offline.
absolutely. My closest friend I met online, and I've never met him in person because he lives in Canada, but we talk on the phone and we web cam and we have a lot in common. We just talk for hours and hours about anything. Just random shit. We give eachother advice, we make eachother laugh, we share music and videos. We mostly talk about art (music, tv shows, poetry) and he's expanded my musical taste because of the unique shit he sends me. We also are both avid MMA fans. Whenever there's a UFC event, we watch it and pretty much give a commentary. I'm planning on even moving to Canada where he lives after I get my phlebotomy certification so we can chill on the weekends. He's a cool dude.
Absolutely! I've had certain online friends for years. We've been through tons of shit together, thick and thin. The only reason I don't hang out with most of my good online friends is geography.

Last time I checked we all bleed the same color blood, and are equally human (although that's sometimes up for debate). Why not?
