CL Opponents Watch: Inter / DFB Cup Opponents Watch: Bayern Munich

Good News. Inter can be beaten. Atletico showed us how. Inter's rock solid defense is not insurmountable, afterall. Once Mourinho is out, lackadaisical defending sneaked back in.

This one

(well, let's make use of the occasion and post some more of him here)

Here he is - or rather - his glorious return home to UruGAY (typo stays) after their dauntless worldcuppy performance. No cup then. But this time around...

... he (and Atletico) scored the Supercup, Supercup? you're saying. Another generic event, unfortunately, between the EL winner and the CL winner, but still good for a photo op and some confetti. Game got, especially in the second half, rather unconcentrated - interrupted by lot's of nit-picky fouls & offsides...
Eto'o had a few beautiful attempts at breaking through AM's defense --

but he failed. Especially Simao and Reyes stuck out on AM's side. Diego Forlan was more working quietly behind the scenes.

Still, the battle of the two Diego's was won by Forlan (respectively his curls barely hold together by a girly hairband. To be fair, Milito showed a bit more dedication and overall presence on the pitch, with lesser success in the end, though.

As for Inter - WB needs a VERY alert defense ( a sentence that can be written anytime you post on WB) - especially Fritz will have to prevent a lot (translates a shitload) on his side. Also, Wiese hopefully saw Militos bad penalty *Frings chuckles*... So there is hope afterall.
How did AM do it, then? Well they had Simao - who weaseled/dribbled his way through those bully defenders and played a beautiful cross directly on Agüero's foot. 2-nil! Naturally, I imagined this to be Marin, playing a cross magnetically on Pizzas/Almeida tiptoe...

Oh, speaking of Marin and dribbling in general -- I found this wonderful quote by Siegenthaler illustrating why players like Marin are indispensable for cracking massive defense walls like Inter's.

(Source : Die Zeit)

So even Eto'o did not succeed with his speedy attempts at breaking through AM's defense - this time, I should say. Still, he is an awfully brilliant player -- not only with the ball, but also against the ball, that is, when doing some (a lot actually) defending like back in the days under Mourinho -- that CL game against Barça was a tactical masterpiece. Though this time they could not score to then defend their lead with 10 players in their box... So the trick would be to not let them score, sth Werder was never particularly good at (see Bayern Munich, DFB cup)...

Speaking of DFB Cup and Bayern Munich...

They lost to K'lautern today. 2-nil.

Der Betze brennt!!! I hope KATS tivoed that game and put it on re-run in the lockers - well, actually 66 seconds of it would suffice. That's how much time it took Ilicevic and Lakic, the Tschitschevitsches, as we prefer to call them, to fuck them real bad. So there is even more hope for Werder...

champions league, time wiese, world cup, ururgay, diego forlan, 1fc kaiserslautern, diego milito, werder bremen, supercup, urs siegenthaler, eto'o, inter mailand, atletico madrid, megaultrametacup, whatevercup, torsten frings
