Baaaah I’m a sheep, so I’m going to do as
renaissanced and a significant amount of Pokémon players: I’m going to start a
Nuzlocke Run.
No way I’m deleting my SoulSilver game (it’s not even finished yet!) and I don’t like using roms. On the other hand, I was mourning earlier the loss of my Red and Blue saves… Nuzlocke gives me a good excuse of playing one of them again without bothering with “catching them all”.
Universal rules of a Nuzlocke Run:
1. Release a Pokémon if it faints (it is dead).
2. Catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area and nothing else.
Additional rules for my game:
3. Give every pokémon you capture a themed nickname.
4. Given/Bought Pokémon are ok to use as long as they are the first Pokémon encountered in the area.
5. It is possible to go fishing, but then only the first Pokémon can be caught, and nothing else in the area. If the rod catches nothing at first try, too bad, it’s not allowed to catch anything in the area.
5. No legendaries.
6. No game over as long as there are still Pokémon left in the PC.
Pallet Town: Charmander - Axel
I know it's going to be tough for the two first Gyms, but since I'm replaying Red, I might as well go with the insanely badass Charizard :3
Route 1: -
No Pokéball yet :( We could have made a great team, Rattata!
Route 22: NidoranM - Xaldin
Route 2: -
First fail of a likely long series… Xaldin KO the Weedle in one hit.
Viridian Forest: Kakuna - Xemnas
If you don't catch it as a Weedle, Kakuna only knows Harden... fml
Pewter City: -
Huge grinding time because go take on a rock gym leader with only normal, fire and poison attacks. Xemnas evolves into Beedrill. Brock is properly wiped out :D
Route 3: Jigglypuff - Roxas
Another Pokémon with no offensive move... fml² Along the way, Axel evolves into Charmeleon and Xaldin into Nidorino.
I’m doing ok so far, and it’s actually fun to use Pokémon I never tried before (basically everyone saved for Charmeleon). No casualty yet, and I hope it’ll stay that way. I’m even ready to *gasp* BUY items, namely plenty of escape ropes for Mt Moon >.>
