What was your take on Cal's great regret at the end? I can't decide if he's upset b/c his friend is responsible, b/c he's the one who is going to tell everyone about it, b/c he'll probably lose the girl over it, or all of it.

Loved "the kids shoot the messenger". I don't know that he really understood how much he was risking until then.

I read an interview once that described Simm as looking like "37 going on 15", and the moment when he's got his faced pressed into the wall at the newspaper, crying, was the perfect example of that. He looked so young and out of his depth.

And btw, one of my favorite bits was Cal writing the letter to Anne, and then his fear about having her reading it. That was as sweet (and scared) as I've seen - just lovely.

*swoons*

What I would give for someone to do that for me! That was incredibly brave of Cal, laying himself out like that. I loved that entire section, especially the way they edited it. Got the impression he wrote a novel. It seemed like a lot of time passed while she was reading. LOL

Everything was great, from his writing, to changing his mind, to basically being forced to give it to her and then...the terror of waiting for her reaction. I swear, I turned into a little puddle.

I know, and John Simm with that sweet face! It was a novel! And he just had to write it - of course he is a writer, something I think we both understand! Yes, it took a long time for her read. And he was absolutely fabulously wonderful.

Not to mention when she went to him and turned him around, which she had to actually do, and that was lovely as well.

Suddenly I'm in love with John Simm ... how did that happen?

(And yes, of course he was also fabulous as The Master!)

But once again, Bill Nighy and how much he relished getting this big story and how much he was willing to risk for it. And how much he enjoyed the adrenaline and the whole process. Smart, funny, tough, loved him! And also loved the line early one about Dan (?) not calling him Dad at the office!
