Usual boring deputy chief fare, really. Mel comes into the office, Mel reads paperwork...

Mel rereads paperwork.

Mel backs up, and leans against the wall facing Makita's cell and sighs.

"Wish I could say I've never wanted to do that."

Makita shakes her head, her eyes down, "Sorry. I... sort of lost it. He just made me so mad."

Mel sighs, and shakes her head slightly at the ceiling. No actual forgiveness, but understanding.

"Steph?" she asks, in a 'was it...?' tone of voice.

That gets a confused blink, "What does Stephanie have to do with it?"

...Oh.

Mel starts, and looks sheepish. "I assumed you found out... they have a history. You know, the type with a big H. Not that it warrents shooting or anything... what was it?"

After Mel leaves Makita sits and works on her note for Zuko. There are a couple of rejected drafts lying around in crumpled wads on the floor. Who knew apologizing would be so hard?

Still, it's lonely work, and she wouldn't mind some company, or even an outright distraction.

How about some seriously conflicted company?

Steph was here briefly, earlier, but it was a fly-in fly-out sort of visit. It's taken her a while to settle herself down enough to come back.

She drifts down the aisle and leans against the cell opposite 'Kita's.

"Hey."

Makita looks up, and sees Steph. She was hoping that Steph wouldn't be too upset about this, but... Well...

"Hey. 'M sorry."

"He probably deserved it," Steph admits reluctantly, and slides down to sit against the wall, legs stretched across the aisle.

But she SHOT HIM. He might have deserved it, but. But. But she SHOT him!

Jack should get out of the habit of running in front of his mum. But he's slightly ahead of her as the two of them are shown into the office in search of Makita.

Jack heads towards her, not seeing the transparent cell door, and bumps straight into it, falling on his bottom.

:(

He whimpers and is picked up by his mum, who then looks into the cell.

"Hello Makita."

Makita tries to reach out and catch Jack as he bumps, but her hand smacks into the wall instead and she winces. She looks up, "Hey, Betty. Is Jack going to be okay?"

"He's fine, he bumps into things all the time. Part of learning, isn't it little one?" She positions the snivelling toddler on her hip.

"What happened?" she asks, coming closer. "Are you hurt?"

She shakes her head, "No, nothing happened to me. I... Lost my temper. Tried to kill someone who didn't need to die." She sounds miserable. She doesn't like the idea that she might kill someone who didn't deserve it.

Sharon had been looking for Makita to do some training with her. Apparently she was here in a cell. No on e had told Sharon why she was here and she hadn't gotten the note from Bar so Makita would probably have to explain it to her.

"Hey, what's going on? I thought we could do some training and someone told me you were in here."

Makita looks up, "Oh, um, hey, Sharon... They tossed me in here for... Shooting some guy." She's rather embarrassed now.

Sharon looked completely bewildered.

"What happened? Is he dead?"

She shakes her head, "Not for lack of trying, but Security stopped me after three shots, and then the infirmary patched him up." Makita sighs, "I got lucky."

And now there's a Jet.

With a siiiiigh and a chagrined look. "I brought dice, 'case you get bored."

He sits down, and passes them over-- Steph has vouched for him and the items, so there they go. "You get to roll 'em for me if we play, though. Don't worry, I trust you."

There's a wink there.

Angry? Jet? Pfft. He's not gonna be angry. He's guessing he'd probably do the same in her position. They were far too alike, he and Makita.

Would do and will do, though he'll have a better reason than she did.

She sighs too, "I lost my temper. The guy didn't need to die." It's been a new experience for her too. She's not used to thinking of people in categories beyond friends and threats.

But he dosen't know that yet.

Small blessings.

"Yeah, I know how that is. 'cept I tend not to explode, I tend to plot." He shrugs and says, "What did he do, 'Kita?"

He'll sit and listen.

She's told the story to a lot of people since she got put in the cells, but it still makes her angry every single time.

Makita's fists clench by her side, "He said that what the Reds were doing back home was right."
