ATTN: THE GREAT DREAMWIDTH MILLIGRATION 2012

Feb 06, 2012 12:53

Hello all, and welcome to the official Big Fat Organisation Post for the move to Dreamwidth! This gets long and rather list-happy, so it's been broken up into handy little sections. But first, some important notes:

First: you will notice that the first steps for most of the bits in Section 6 are basically the same. This is because we want to get ( Read more... )

Hmm. Before your last ETA, I was going to reply with:

I suspect there may be a slight bug to do with fields beginning or ending with a numerical character; despite both being listed properly in the fandoms list, 3:10 to Yuma and Warehouse 13 came in as :10 to Yuma and Warehouse 1 respectively, and had to be fixed before adding.

I'm about to step out for a bit, but I'll test it out when I get back, and let you know when I figure it out.

But with Cooper, that is evidently not the case. I will poke at it when I get back; if we're lucky, it's hopefully nothing more than two people trying to submit at once.

I'm having the same error message when I try to enter Jane Austen but Will Scarlett and Tumnus went through.

ETA: Actually I keep getting this error An error occured while attempting to add you to the pending members queue. This is because you are possibly already a member (approved or unapproved) or someone used your email address to join this fanlisting before. If you wish to update your information, please go here.

So I think I'm going to stop trying for a while as I'm not sure how to make it happy and instead just get my pups joining the Bar and do the cast list later.

As per the instructions on the form, the cast list requires a unique email address for every submission - hence why we require that you just use yourcharacterusername@milliways.bar, or something similar. If you have used the same address for one of the other characters, your submission will not be processed.

Please remind me how exactly reserved status works?

More specifically, when most of the old Danny Phantom muns left the game, ladyiapetus and I got their permission to take control of their pups' journals, but as far as I can recall (correct me if I'm wrong) we didn't officially adopt them because we were just using them for OOMs and we'd prefer to find new muns to adopt them if anyone wanted to. If (and we haven't settled on this yet, but I want to be clear if it's even an option) we decide we'd prefer to avoid One Universe Over versions, but we'd still like to have these versions picked up if there are any takers, does reserved status apply to that?

Yes, that would be the simplest option at the moment, though you should also list their LJs/DWs as well as their reserved status.

(We're semi-sorta thinking about whether/how we should include an indication on the cast list that some characters may be adoptable in non-One-Universe-Over form rather than available for re-apping, but right now that's something that's on the agenda for after the move.)

Excellent!

(Huh. Would that cover Danny himself, who was the only one we didn't get access to his old journal, since the mun was still using it for other comms, but we have made him a new one for OOM purposes? Or is he just plain out of the running as far as the current 'verse is concerned?)

Mmmm, that one's a little trickier. For now, at least, I'd say he'd fit best under 6f, listed with his old LJ. If the previous mun has given you permission to do what you want with that incarnation of Danny (i.e. his story in Milliways, just not the actual journal), then you shhhhould be okay to offer him for adoption with the new journal, when we figure out exactly what we're doing in that whole... area.

In future, though, I'm not sure we should allow intra-mun character "safekeeping" in the way you've described. While I understand the reasoning for it, if those characters are never formally adopted by their "guardians", then they're kept out of circulation while also being usable in OOMs, and not taking up space on anyone's active roster, which sets a precedent for being able to hoard characters in a way I'm not keen on.

Anyway, that's slightly OT for the moment. For now, just go ahead and list him as 'retired', and we'll go from there.

How do I treat a character that I retired and might want to play again, but am not sure. And also would add his canon has been extremely rebooted.

Well, you have until the 29th of the month to decide whether or not you want to unretire him, so... there's that?

Alternatively, you can list him as retired on the new cast list, which will keep him from being apped by anyone else in the meantime. Then when you decide what you want to with him, you can either unretire him at your leisure post-move, leave him where he is, or let him go to legacy status.

OY.

Because I had to refill the form a couple of times for Tristran Thorn, the last time it went through - and the time it actually successfully went through - I completely forgot to list him as [RETIRED].

I'm pretty sure I accidentally left that blank. D:

Um.

Help, please?

-- Also! I can't seem to add Hermione Granger to the list. I keep getting one of those Error: Try Again messages.

Thanks in advance! And I'm sorry for the earlier mistake!

Fixed Tristran Thorn! Give it a few minutes with Hermione; the problem seeeeems to be related to simultaneous submissions and database snottiness, so it should go through if you try again in a bit.

If it doesn't, let me know.

Belated as flip, but thank you!

And yes, everything else has worked out since. I have one last pup to do (I think) and I should be golden. :)

Again, thank you for all your patience and help and for this amazing work!

I got my wires crossed and managed to add Anna Milton to the cast list twice.

Sorry.

Can one be removed?

Thank you!

I am apparently going to make a muddle of this -- Ysabel was combined with Fionavar, but was still on the dropdown menu by itself. Should I re-submit Meg to the combined category?

Whoops, no, that was my bad; Ysabel shouldn't have still been on the list. I'll edit Meg's entry.
