We survived Christmas with my family + sister's boyfriend. I was a bit worried that things would go poorly as sister + boyfriend pair have not been on my mother's good side recently. However, they managed to be quite civil to each other, and sometimes even appeared to be having a good time. My mom was delighted by their surprise arrival on Christmas Eve (two days earlier than they claimed to be coming), and Christmas Day was a delightful day of present opening by an excited DAT followed by our traditional super-delicious six course Italian feast (antipasti, soup, salad, pasta (tortellini), brusilitini (pork tenderloin rolled around tasty cheese/breadcrumb/garlic/Italian spices stuffing), and dessert (various cookies). Add to the fact that my sister's boyfriend is an amazing foodie with lots of good ideas about cooking (he was shocked by our lack of a pepper grinder and garlic press), and we had an amazingly scrumptious Christmas week, and I learned several new recipes.
After all the festivities of Christmas and juggling the desires of various family members and a week of copious vegetable harvesting at the farm/the Fox's work at UNC, we were too tired do much more than have a toast at dinner for New Year's. However, I am very pleased with how the year has ended up in terms of my and my family's well being. I hope that my stint in agriculture continues to go well in the following year, and that next year involves a bit more stability than this.
Happy New Year to all, and to all a good night.
