Disaster strikes again, but at least I'm getting a little better. I actually woke up to my alarm for the 5am nap this time, except I remember feeling a little chilly, so I just pulled a warm robe/blanket around me and BAM... 7:45am. Again, there's room for improvement but my goal for the next 5am nap (which is coming up in the next 4 hours) is to get up immediately after the alarm, no messing around. I didn't believe Scott when he told me that the 5am-9am shift is the most difficult to get through, but I sure as hell believe him now. That's 2 days in a row now that I've overslept the 5am nap and had to skip the 9am nap. It looks as if this is turning more into an Everyman sleep schedule (one core 3-4 hours of sleep at night, followed by 2-3 naps during the day) instead of the Uberman (6 naps evenly spread out). Even though I really only overslept by ~2 hours, I felt sooooo reenergized, which I guess still indicates that I'm still not adjusted to the Uberman schedule :( (which makes me wonder if I'm supposed to be able to)
After oversleeping one nap 2 days in a row now, and feeling great after them both, even though they were only 2-3 hours, I wonder and long for that 8 hour night when I stop this schedule. I'd imagine it'll be the best night sleep I've gotten in, oh.... ever. But I'd feel bad for stopping at this point, most people stop at Day 3 or before the first week is up, so I guess I just want to experience what most people have never seen.
Today was similar to yesterday, woke up later than expected, went to work, skipped the 9am nap, and took the 1pm and 5pm naps at work. One alteration I had to make was that I brought a small pillow from home to work, as I recall me not being able to sleep very well without one. When I showed up to the lounge at 1pm, it was full of people (unexpected), so I kept walking passed the lounge and eventually found a wooden bench in a hallway of the engineering building... less than comfortable, but it worked. Today was semi strange in the fact that every single nap was pretty difficult to get up from, not sure if that is just me still trying to get over the side effects of the 1st week of polyphasic sleeping or what.
Last time I talked about REM sleep and how I may or may not be getting it. I had a weird experience during my 1pm nap which leads me to ask, can you enter into REM sleep yet still be awake (just with your eyes closed)? It was almost as if when I closed my eyes, my eyes started to twitch causing the light in the room to dim down, followed by random vivid images flying passed my face. It was as if I was dreaming just by closing my eyes, fully aware that I was not asleep yet. Also, as a side note from the question I introduced yesterday "Am I getting REM sleep?" I figured I had to be getting REM sleep in my accidental oversleeping of the 5am nap, cuz I'm still not hallucinating :D (that's a good thing)
