A week or so ago I wrote this longass email reflecting on many of my experiences junior year. I sent it out to friends to sort of keep them updated on how life has been for me. Last night and today I wrote my first ever grant proposal. It's a small grant: short (1500 words) and only for $1500. I'm always terrified of coming across as unintelligent in the lab. But today my PI read through what I wrote and told me it was "Great! Impressive for an undergraduate." And now I'm full of giddy and glee! YEE!!!

I'm terrified of seeming unintelligent in front of the other people in my lab.

Secret: Sometimes they say things in "science-speak", and I respond. But I don't really know what I'm talking about.

I know this shouldn't seem like a big deal, but this is like a major life change. After 4+ years of using Microsoft Outlook, I made the move to gmail. I recently found out (thanks to Erik) that Gmail can do all the things Outlook can do (with a few exceptions). And it's faster. And it doesn't take up space on my harddrive. Today there was a mixup in communication with Hui, and I showed up for lab when she was away at a day-long seminar.

Anyways I was really disappointed because I want to soak up every minute I have of labtime left with her before this summer. I'm hoping to go in to the lab to help her out more than just once a week.

and I've got some downtime :) Since my postdoc is downstairs and I'm waiting for her before we do some experiments to try and figure out what I did wrong what went wrong with the enzymes yesterday.

I found out!!!

This summer I'll be spending a few weeks on a remote island off of Tahiti doing SERIOUSLY COOL Field Research on seabird/coconut tree/nutrient cycles. Oh I'm so so GIDDY!
