I just had the weirdest conversation, with this girl from Georgia. She goes to school with my first grade crush (haha). Anyway, the three of us were arguing over the way women were treated in the south, and it made me cringe.
GoletaSB: i think that southern belief that the guys need to do everything is absolutely ridiculous
GATORGURL85: WHAT? nope you're done
GoletaSB: its stupid, admit it
GATORGURL85: that's how I've been raised child! One day my southern gentleman is going to come and sweep me off my feet and we are going to live happily ever after
GoletaSB: hahahahaha
SoccerBugg86: if it isn't fair anywhere else in the country, why should the south play by different rules?
SoccerBugg86: If the girls want the guys to pay for everything
SoccerBugg86: then the girls can't complain when the guy throws 'em an apron and says "bitch, make me a sandwich"
GATORGURL85: boo that
GATORGURL85: who is that? b/c she's about to get jumped by 2 southern gals
GATORGURL85: and I'd be happy to make my husband a sandwich you stupid bitch
GATORGURL85: and by the way a good southern man would never throw an apron at his wife and say bitch make me a sandwich
It went on, and on...her saying that we need to uphold this tradition simply for the sake of tradition. When we threw in the whole racism card, ooh, she went nuts. Finally she blocked us all saying we had gone too far, and it was morally offensive to her, saying that guys shouldn't be expected to open every single door and pick up every check, and that we need to just accept the south for what it is.
Sean and I cheered, saying the south was going to secceed from the union. (Once he gets out of GA, of course.)
I know that that's not NORMAL, to be like this crazy girl, and i don't hate the south, but it scares me to death that there are still people in this mindset. I feel so damn liberal, all of a sudden, and can realize how bush won.
PS I aced my stats quiz, 100%.
