perhaps it would have been better another way. i miss mathematics. being in someone else's room is so scary. looking at things someone owns is so comforting, they are never all that you would imagine them to be.

Today we discussed the question of whether film or literature is more realistic. One argument for literature was that it avoids stock characters because you imagine your own person filling the role and so they need not be the typical hollywood-attractive sort. Also, literary characters are supposedly more unique, different every time, because they are more detailed. This seemed silly to me, though, because if you read a novel, you get to know the thought processes behind the actions and you make small connections with the ideas and thoughts of the character that perhaps the character is not even aware of. Basically, literary characters are faker because of their more uniqe identities. You know too much about them, and basically you know more than there actually is. When is the last time you saw or met someone and (being that you are living in reality) realized they were more than just another face, had idiosyncrosies that made them deeper? Life is too anonymous for the depth of character in novels to be realistic at all.
