Fires? Firing?! What the hell is going on...
Shock value title. No, I'm not getting fired, and neither is anyone that I know at DOW, although we're in a hard hiring freeze.
Fires are raging near Brea and Chino Hills. Unfortunately, Diamond Bar is smack in the middle of those suburbs, so my parents are concerned that the house is going to burn down. From recent reports, it seems that the fires are dying down because the winds have gone away. The freeways were closed going towards Brea on Saturday, my parents were ready and packed to evacuate, and several homes in the Country (the rich end of town) burned to the ground.
Has anyone else felt the effect of the bad economy yet? DOW (as in the DOW chemical company) stock plummeted last month, so people are much less likely to leave the company. Unfortunately, DOW has stopped hiring in several positions, which rather tilts the age group to the elder side of the table. I'm being forced to take the last week of the year without pay, so I'm deciding if I should take another trip to California this year, or doing something even more dramatic (Kelly, you think Aska would like a visit?)
If you got any ideas for trips, let me know because I'm completely open for an awesome trip, even if I go solo for the hundredth time. There's no way that I'm going to sit around at home for 2 weeks while not getting paid.
