If Not Metallica

I've been listening to "Your Protector" by Fleet Foxes on a loop for the past two days. Okay, that's an exaggeration, but according to my iTunes I've listened to it 10 times, and that doesn't count listening to the CD on my stereo. And while Fleet Foxes is overall an awesome album, this song has seriously become my official Season Three Dean Winchester Theme.

"Your Protector" is folksy, very American, and utterly utterly epic. I think the AV Club was apt when (to my delight) they posted an article on best tracks of '08 and described the song as galloping "through its menacing minor chords and stirring, organ-driven uplifts like the soundtrack to some lost spaghetti Western." It's a theme for vanquishing evil doers and trying to be heroic and dying while doing it.

And with sketchy lyrics about family, sacrifice, and running with the devil, the song is abstract enough to be utterly touching, but specific enough to scream Dean Winchester.
