Oyumaru

I know I'm on late, but just a quick post - I want to show how well a mould Oyumaru makes, and if it is made properly, it is very useful! Firstly, I made a two part mould of my chibi figurine (tutorial to come later), and once the mould sets, you can use it. Since I'm using polymer clay, I dust the insides of the mould with baby powder - but talcum powder and cornstarch will work just as well. Tap out the excess powder, and then fill in the two mould halves with clay, flattening it down to level it with the edges of the mould, and scrape off the excess clay around the shape of the thing that you're making.

This way, it makes it easier to put the two halves together, instead of squishing clay out the sides on the account of too much clay. For example, like this:

It's just harder to close the mould halves together - and I worry that the pressure would break the mould after repetitive use, so if you do it right, you should be able to close the halves with ease, like this:

Make sure that you press it together really well! It's because you would want the two halves of the clay to join, and to have any excess clay squished away to make a clear outline of your model ^_^ And then you open it up gently ...

And ta dah! My chibi figurine! The baby powder just helps the clay to not stick to the mould, and makes it easier to take the mould off. Just scrape away the excess squished clay around it with a clay tool, and then gently pry it loose out of the other half of the mould with your fingers ^_^ if the polymer clay is too soft to do so without damaging the shape, then put it in the freezer for a few minutes to firm it up, and try again. And if that doesn't work, empty the mould and try making it again, but with more baby powder. Once out, smooth down the edges or ridges made by the lines of the mould. But if you're successful getting it out, you should now have clones!

The chibi clay figurine compared to the original model, pretty darn close I would say. It's good to have moulds, since it helps to make multiples of one thing faster, and keep them uniform, without having some that are slightly bigger than others, or smaller, or not as well formed ^_^

After I made a few of them, I decided to do something for my sewing, and spent the rest of my night tracing patterns in my light brown fleece. Why? Because I decided to cut out all the pieces I need from all the fabric that I have at the moment, and once done, sew all of it in one go, and then cut the felt in one go, and glue them all on in one go. That way, making the hats would go so  much faster ^_^ woo, factory line, reminds me of a particular Big Bang Theory episode, lol, oh how I love Sheldon!

But that's all from me, goodnight!
