Lately I have been busy decorating the charms I have with flat-back gems, and I've finished! At least the batch that has been baked and painted and glossed anyway. Although I'm not sure if it's sparkly enough, or too sparkly? For a few pieces, I've added some cane slices, but mostly I think the cane slices of the fruits and etc, will be used a whole lot more for cakes or cupcakes that I make in the future. Anyway! Pictures of what I have!!
For the mushrooms I used a row of two gems, although I don't think I got the white dots right for them to be mario mushrooms or 1up's *shrugs* ah well. So we have the red ones:
The yellow mushrooms
Green mushrooms
Blue mushrooms
For the round onigiri, or onigiri balls, I used a pink flower cane slice (as cherry blossoms) and a gem for the middle of the flower.
For the nori strip it's actually painted a green-black colour, but it's hard to tell in the photos. Triangular onigiri with plums, decorated with flowers and gems:
Checkered short-bread, decorated with a gem, I'm not sure if this is too sparse or not? But I don't really have any appropirate canes to use, or brown gems :S Also, when I painted the smallest ones (before I had the paint wells) the colours for it are a bit different than the medium and large sized ones >_< but now that I have the paint wells, I should be able to keep the colours more uniform, but the tiny ones are still so cute!
Strawberries, there are actually two types - the first one was my first attempt at making strawberries, and I made everything too round >.< The second ones are better though, I used three gems to simulate the seeds ^_^
Kamaboko! They're actually known as narutomaki, since it's an artistic take on kamaboko inspired by the Naruto whirlpools in the Naruto Strait between Awaji Island and Shikoku in Japan. They're pretty well known because of Naruto the manga and anime, and they are used as a topping for ramen, as they are fish cakes. The swirls can either be pink or red ^_^ I used one gem in the middle of the spiral at the backs of the charms, not sure if that would be enough though:
Apples! They look a bit like strawberries though :S I need to rethink the shape, but they have leaves and a stem, I decorated these with just a gem:
As I was attaching the cords to the charms I realised I was missing something for the charms - bells, usually, phone charms would have little tinkling bells on them, but I had forgotten about them for mine! But I'm not sure if I would want to include them anyway, bells annoy the crap out of me, and I'm not sure what it would do to the split rings if I opened and closed them too many times to add things to it :S they may break from the strain.
Anyway, there are about 40 different charms at the moment, so I've decided it to split it over 4 posts, else, one post will be just too much!
So now, go
here for Part 2!
