As everyone knows, Valentine's day is drawing near, and since my special someone loves the cupcakes I make, I got right into baking! Oh my goodness, I didn't realise how much I miss baking until I got back to baking cupcakes! I decided to make red velvet cupcakes, with vanilla buttercream, and use these really cute sugar decorations that look like buttons! These buttons come from the Donna Hay range (I adore her cook books and her kitchen utensils range) and I also got the paper cupcake cases from her range too! They are just so adorable, and different.
Anyway, red velvet has always been a favourite of mine - I mean, red? Hellooo? My favourite colour! And plus it suited the Valentine's day theme, but this was the first time I got to make it, and I am so glad it turned out well, but onwards to the pictures!! I went a little crazy at the picture taking, so I chose the ones I liked best to show to you guys, so bear with me if it's ALOT of pictures :D
Red Velvet cupcakes fresh out of the oven and onto the cooling rack! I just love how red it is! I can't wait to see how it turned out once I break into one *drools*
All of the cupcakes, the buttons were, from the top down, pink, cream and white buttons on a circle of chocolate.
I really had fun piping the vanilla buttercream icing
I decided to pipe three layers of swirls on top of the cupcakes, and using the button as the topping.
I used the 21 Wilton icing tip, hence why I needed three layers to be able to fit the button on top comfortably, two layers looked wierd.
I also used vanilla bean paste to flavour the buttercream icing, which is why you would see flecks of the vanilla bean in the icing (they look like tiny black spots) and I find this gives it a really nice vanilla flavour.
And I made sure the icing was at the right sweetness, since for three layers, I didn't want to overkill the taste buds with sugar XD
This one turned out the best, three really neat layers of swirls, the cupcake hasn't spilled over in the baking, and the decoration is sitting in the middle of the topmost swirl, I will definitely have to post pictures of the insides of the cupcake soon!
But besides making cupcakes, here are some pictures of the charms I have been making, to add on more to the range of charms I already have:
I filled four foil trays of them, all ready to be baked!
I have made some cake slices that have strawberries and cream on them, donuts of various shapes and sizes, eclairs, cookies and ice-cream cones.
And here we have popsicles, roses with leaves, chocolate squares, more cake slices, cakes with 'For You' love hearts and cream, hearts with roses, and swirly sweets :D
Since I am preparing to bake them, I will be sure to take pictures and make a tutorial on the process I use to bake polymer clay, so look forward to that! That's all for tonight though, and I hope everyone enjoys their Valentine's, be it with their special someone or just with friends!
EDIT: And here are the promised pictures of the inside of the cupcake!
It's a lovely shade of red, and yes, I enjoyed biting into it XD
The cupcake was fluffy, and the icing was at a good sweetness, so I'm really pleased that it turned out so well!
