Title: Family
Characters: Holy Roman Empire, Hungary, Austria, Northern Italy (Young)
Notes: The Holy Roman Empire has always seemed distant from the others, hasn't he? Just a step away.

Just take a step, I command myself, but my feet stay stuck to the ground. I watch through the slightly open door as Italien cleans, Ungarn mends torn clothing, and Österreich writes out notes for his piano. Even with such distance between the three, there's a sense of calm and familiarity. Like a family. Move, I command myself again, but I can't. No one notices as I lean on the doorframe and watch them, knowing I am part of this family but not part of it at all. I want to run into Ungarn arms and let her play with me like she does my sweet Italien, to listen to Österreich play music made for me as he does for mein liebe, but I stay put in my spot of lonliness, my corner of solitude, my way of life. I can only watch them. I could never be part of this family. I am a stranger in my own home.

My thoughts are interrupted as my hand is grabbed and I'm pulled into the room, paints and canvases littering the ground I'm sat down at with Italien. She smiles, though she seems a bit tense for soem reason. Oh. I let go of her hand quickly, my face heating up. Stupid, stupid, stupid. She forgets the small incident and asks if I'd like to paint with her. I nod slightly, too embarrassed to say much, and pick my paints. Österreich watches from over his glasses and then goes back to composing. Ungarn folds the clothes she has mended and watches us with the face of a contented mother. Italien paints a picture of her family, the brother she barely remembers and the grandfather she loved so much. I paint a picture of this family, my family, then add myself a small distance from them.

Even in paintings, I realize as I finish it almost a week later, I'm not part of the family.
