Tonight, I got together with a bunch of awesome women and made calls for the Obama campaign. It was great. :) I was so worried at first that everybody would be really rude, or that I'd have absolutely no luck! And a lot of people were very kind, and a lot I talked to were voting for Obama or had already done so. I'm amazed at all the early voters- I think it's wonderful that people are getting out to do it. I'm going to go tomorrow too, I think, so I can possibly volunteer on election day as well.

I'm so happy I got in touch with as many people as I did. Everyone who came had at least some success too. And only a few people were rude! It didn't even bother me or upset me, and I was a little worried that it might. But, nope. The few people who were, we all just laughed about. So! If you get a call from a volunteer, don't be rude to them. You won't upset or intimidate them, I can pretty much guarantee you. You'll just get made fun of when they hang up. ;)

I'm going to do more phone-banking in the next several days too. I honestly didn't know how it would go- I am NOT good on the phone, and I don't really like talking to random strangers, but once I got started all of that just went away. Everyone there was really nice, too. I didn't know anybody, because I'd just found the event on http://barackobama.com, but they were very friendly. We watched Barack's address and then got back to phone-banking. ;)

I had a great experience tonight. I've never liked a candidate this much before, and I've never felt so positively about one either. Yay. :) And that's all I'll say about that, because I don't want to get overconfident. I keep thinking of these lines from The West Wing:

Sam: You wrote a concession?
Toby: Of course I wrote a concession. What, do you want to tempt the wrath of the... whatever, from high atop the thing?
Sam: No.
Toby: Then go outside, turn around three times and spit. What the hell's the matter with you?
Sam: It's like, 25 degrees outside.
Toby: Go!

Josh: What possible reason would he have for not writing a concession speech?
Sam: The wrath from high atop the thing?
Toby: He upped and said we were gonna...
Josh: No! You gotta go outside, turn around three times and curse.
Toby: Spit.
Josh: Spit and curse.
Toby: Do everything.
Josh: Go!
Toby: Go!
Josh and Toby: Go!

CJ: Did you-?
Sam: Yes, I turned, I cursed, I spat, it froze.

DO NOT TEMPT THE WRATH OF THE WHATEVER FROM HIGH ATOP THE THING. Thank you.

And now, unrelated to anything else. Folks who wanted the cupcake recipes, they're coming! Promise I'll post 'em here soon. Vanilla chai were a pretty damn good success.

yay, politics
