I had a great time hanging out with some people for over twenty-four hours. We played DDR, drank a tolerable amount, played stupid board games, ate way too much, went for a walk, got lost, saw the shack where a former JET lives, watched a house burn down, had oknomiyaki in a shop that looked like a TGI Friday's gone to the dogs, and sang karaoke in a love hotel-themed karaoke-kan (not necessarily in that order.) It was crazy, hilarious, stupid, gossipy, sexy, and just all-around amazing. I love my friends and it's going to rip my heart out to leave them. It's times like the adventures yesterday that make me wonder why the hell I would ever want to leave.
And then I will go back to work on Monday and remember--vividly.
My birthday is a four-day long celebration this year. It began Thursday night at around 8 and will end around that time tomorrow when I realize I have to go to work in twelve hours.
Today, in honor of my Japanese Birthday, I'm going to have curry rice and a strawberry daifuku because I've been craving them for weeks. And then as an even greater gift to myself, I AM GOING TO CLEAN THIS APARTMENT UNTIL IT GLEAMS. This place is a disaster area and I deserve to live in a place where I am comfortable and that I'm proud to have other people see. I will give a new standard to the phrase "spring cleaning." Today also marks the historic day when I finally put up my kotatsu! This thing has certainly served me well over the winter, but I'm sick of sitting on the floor. I also want the couch back in this room for easy video game playing.
I'm thinking about buying a game for PS2 called
Persona 4 because I've heard it's an excellent RPG that takes months to complete, which is exactly what I'm looking for. I need to keep my hands very busy and my brain occupied over the next several months after GENKI ends. I'm going to be bored and very on edge (for reasons not to be explained here) so a long, engrossing video game is exactly what I need. The only problem is that I'm worried I won't like it. I tried playing one of the early Shin Megami Tensei games way back when and didn't like it much, despite it getting rave reviews.
You know what I wish I had? Mario Sunshine. That game was really fun and, damn, did it make the hours slip by. It's the same thing as Mario 64, but I've played 64 to death and never finished Sunshine. I wonder if I could find a Japanese Game Cube and Mario Sunshine for cheap. That would kick ass. Ha, but I need another video game console like I need a new liver. I have to pack up everything and leave in four months!
And that's that. My curry rice is eaten and now it is time to bring the clean. I am going to go crazy if this apartment is this bad for a second longer.
