Chapter Four
Firebending Is The Thing To Do When You Are Bored

Katara stood on a log, balancing herself as she walked on it. She was purely bored, since they weren't going anywhere because of Bai Sing Se being captured and all that sort. They would soon return to the Northern Water Tribe and hopefully tell them the tale of Bai Sing Se, and what had happened. Then, they would fly to Chameleon Bay and see Katara's and Sokka's father, who would be glad to see the young Waterbender.

"Katara! Would you get down from there? You could fall and break a bone or something!" Sokka yelled at his sister.

"I'm a Waterbender, Sokka. I know how to heal. That is the joy of being a Bender. And you hate them so much, don't you?" Katara nudged him on.

"If I hated them I wouldn't be around you, Toph, and Aang so much, now would I?"

"Yeah, but you could still hate us!" Katara said in a sing-song voice, then did a backflip off of the log. "Watching that circus freak Ty Lee gave me some new moves. I'm going to use them more often."

"I don't think flips and whatnot will help with such things."

Katara rolled her eyes and stuck out her tongue, walking over to the tent where Aang was. He was inside, cleaning his staff. As bored as he was, that was about the only thing he could do. She entered the tent with a huge smile on her face as she laid on her stomach, watching Aang. He blushed a little bit as she did so and then asked her what she wanted.

"Just to hang out with the best guy in the whole world," she said sweetly. "What do you want to do today? Besides cleaning your staff and hanging out with me."

"I don't know, really. I just wish I could find a Firebending Master and learn it quickly."

"Try doing what Jeong Jeong taught you. I'll stay away, if you want me to!"

Aang shook his head. He had to have a true master with him when he was training. It was the only way to know if he was doing something right. Katara gave him a harsh look, meaning that he had to do it or else. He gave in, and setting down his staff, they left the tent. Katara told everyone to stay back so Aang could practice Firebending, but the Earth King thought she was crazy.

"We'll be seen!"

"Your Highness, we are in the middle of nowhere," Katara explained. "I highly doubt that anyone will see Aang meditating."

"How is that Firebending?"

"He has to control the flame from getting to the outer edges of the leaf by meditating. Here, Aang, I'll light it up."

Katara took a small twig and lit the green leaf that Aang had picked up. She handed it back to him and he sat down, cross-legged, and meditated slowly. The leaf burned, but it didn't go to the outer edges. Everyone watched in amazement, and Toph sensed the fire being held perfectly. She nodded in approval, then looked at Katara with her blind eyes.

"Do you know how to Firebend?"

"Me? Of course not! I hate fire! It destroyed my life! Would you seriously think I could do that? I'm only doing what Jeong Jeong taught Aang! And it is working, now be quiet! He has to focus!" Katara snapped at the twelve-year-old.

"Heck, it was just a question!" Toph complained, crossing her arms.
