Chapter Three

We Will Always Be Together

Katara finally caught up with Aang and Toph, who were trying to figure out if a nut that looked like a rock was truly a rock, or a nut. She leaped at Aang, giving him a huge kiss on the cheek. Toph just stood there, her blind eyes staring straight at them. Katara blushed a little bit, coughed, and asked them what they were doing.

"Doing what Momo does best. Slam rocks, or nuts, against rocks to see if they are rocks or nuts."

"Why not try to Earthbend them, in case they are rocks or nuts?"

"Good point," Aang said, and moved his hands. The nut rocks didn't go into the air. "Yep, they're nuts! Here, Toph."

Toph held out a bag with Aang's face on it and he put one in there, one in Katara's bag, one in Toph's, and one in Sokka's. They realized they needed one for the Earth King and Katara used her skirt to hold his. She was happy to help them in any way. Soon they gathered enough fruit and nuts for a good dinner and headed back towards camp, where Sokka was trying to persuade the Earth King that he wasn't an idiot.

"I remember the time you got your head stuck in an Artic Seal's cave, Sokka. Because you were so curious as to why they slept there instead of in tents like we did," Katara blurted out, then ran into the tent quickly to get something.

"She's just kidding about that," Sokka blushed, leaning back but falling backwards instead. "Okay, maybe not."

Aang and Toph began to laugh hard when a noise was heard behind them. Both turned in unison to see a small, sabertooth moose lion cub. Aang picked it up and asked where its mama was, but the cub just yawned and jumped out of his arms, waddling over to Sokka. Sokka, who was trying to get back up, asked what it was.

"Foo-foo Cuddly Poops!" Sokka yelled out, picking up the cub, who begun to lick his nose. "I haven't seen you in ages! How cool is this?"

Katara came back out and looked at Sokka as though he were crazy. There was something you didn't see every day. She shook her head and sat down next to Aang, taking his hand. They looked at one another lovingly, but Aang still doubted whether or not he should truly be with her. Maybe for now, he could just enjoy the laughter they were all having.

"We'll be together, forever," Katara whispered in her sleep that night, Aang watching them. "Even if I die and go to the Spirit World without you..."

Aang looked at her. Of course she would be with him forever. And when he did die, his spirit would go, but not the Avatar Spirit. That would go on to the next element, Water.

"I love you more than anything, Katara," Aang put a hand on her cheek. "More than you'll ever know."
