still waiting for the rain to come back with my sanity | Epilogue
it's not like he was getting used to it. walking back home, opening the door, taking off his shoes, finding minhyuk's almost dead stare directed at the purple sky. he just thought a lot about him, and it felt right, it felt normal. he felt like he had spent the last years of his life living with an angel sitting on his window sill.

the angel nodded and attempted to smile, which yukwon was grateful for because, well at least he tried.

he knew it wasn't easy for him.

the first day minhyuk spent there, yukwon couldn't sleep for the life of his. for some reason, he could hear the angel's weak and tired heartbeats bouncing on the walls of his room, he could hear his breathing and his long sighs touching the ceiling.

"aren't you hungry?" yukwon would ask, trying to get closer, his voice calm and gentle, but still insecure and scared on the edges. the angel would shake his head, his face would go back to its stone shaped form. he had his wings close to his shoulder blades, the white feathers shining under the sun's goodbye light trays. the sun was going down, the clouds were thick and round and yukwon wondered what was minhyuk thinking about. did he miss home?

"no." his voice took yukwon out of his thoughts. "i don't miss home. not like you think, at least." his voice was deep, not precisely rough, but it had something that soothed yukwon, like a lullaby. he could hear the tiredness, though, the weakness, even the shame in every syllabe.

"can you read my mind?" yukwon asked, fascinated in every way.

"i can stop if you don't want me to." minhyuk offered, his eyes still wandering across the darkening sky.

"that would be great."

after that, minhyuk finally gave up and ate all of yukwon's apples and grapes. yukwon didn't tell him anything, and brought more fruits for him to eat.

"thank you." minhyuk mumbled one day, after taking a big bite off an apple.

they didn't talk much at first, yukwon felt awkward under the angel's cold stares. and the angel did nothing to hold a conversation with him.

the first week went by like that. awkward greetings and muttered thank yous and shy goodnights everyday. in spite of that, yukwon did not regret what he did.

he didn't regret bringing minhyuk home after he found him in the forest. he wasn't sure what made him do it, but he liked to think it was because minhyuk was a beautiful creature he couldn't say no to, even if the angel never asked for anything else. he often found himself staring at him, tracing the delicate lines of his face with his eyes, following the shadows of his cheekbones and trying to find something wrong- a flaw, something that proved minhyuk was partially human, but yukwon never succeeded.

the first days, minhyuk didn't trust him. he flinched back whenever yukwon got too close, he held his breath, he even avoided being too much around the other. he had been taught to protect himself as much as he had to protect humans, but he also had been taught to protect himself from humans. they were curious creatures, he'd been told, they are curious and eager to learn and discover whatever could help them to improve. never trust them, he carefully paid attention, never trust in a human.

they have to trust in you.

yukwon was a nice human, he thought. he knew if he had been found by someone else, he'd already been sold. but yukwon never told anyone else about him, he bought fruit and cooked vegetables for him.

autumm was close, the cold evenings had started and the windy mornings greeted him more often. yukwon got home one day and called minhyuk out. the angel looked up, confused, got on his feet and walked towards the kitchen.

"hey. aren't you cold? i brought coffee." yukwon announced, smiling brightly.

angels were supposed to be bright and beautiful, warm and tender, and minhyuk vaguely remembered the days when he was like that. he used to be like that, too. it was hard to go back in time.

"i… don't know." the auburn haired angel replied, arching a brow. his hair has falling on his forehead, strands of hair touching his cheeks. yukwon had given him one of his shirts, cut a pair of holes in the back and also gave him a pair of sweatpants.

"why don't you try it?" yukwon said, handing him a cup of warm coffee. after that, it became almost like a routine, to drink coffee together sitting on the coach.

since the first day minhyuk stayed there, he had been sleeping in the guests' room, with a double bed and a night table next to it. yukwon wasn't even sure if angels could sleep but he didn't care, he thought the angel deserved his own privacy. the night was cold, the walls weren't thick enough to keep the sheets warm, the floor felt like ice under his skin.

yukwon walked into the room without knocking first, which startled minhyuk.

"use these if you're cold." yukwon said, placing a couple of blankets on the mattress. he glanced up and noticed minhyuk had his feathery wings wrapped around him. he felt dumb, and he felt blood slowly rushing to his face.

"i thought you were already sleeping." minhyuk said, and oddly enough, there was something different in his voice. he didn't sound distant. "thank you for these.", he added. yukwon couldn't help but stare at minhyuk's wings, white like snow and probably soft like fur, or something even softer, something yukwon couldn't imagine. the wings were edgy, slim on the ends, and as the days passed by they seemed to be stronger than before. when yukwon first saw minhyuk, he had his wings folded and nearly glued to his back, dry blood and mud dripping on the feathers, he looked like he was about to break. yukwon frowned at his own thoughts and decided to smile at minhyuk instead.

perhaps it was that they were getting used to each other, yukwon thought, that's why things felt different.

--

"have you ever met another human? or am i the first one you've talked to?" one day yukwon asked, not really thinking about keeping his distance anymore.  minhyuk's expression didn't change for a few seconds. yukwon was about to take back his words but the angel spoke first.

"i've met another human before." he answered. yukwon's eyes widened, and he felt a bunch of questions pooling at the pit of his tongue, but he wasn't sure if it was right for him to ask. minhyuk and him barely talked before, and all of these questions were probably unnecessary, but there was something within him that kept glancing up at the angel, curiosity, maybe, but it was strong and made his stomach swirl. "i… i don't want to talk about him."

"it's okay. i'm sorry if i asked too much." yukwon whispered. the frown in minhyuk's face gradually disappeared. the angel showed half a smile that made yukwon's brain stop,  and something inside of his ribcage trip.

"you didn't, yukwon."

minhyuk rarely called him by his name, he thought before he could change his surprised expression. the way it sounded, the way it easily rolled off the angel's tongue made it sound like something forbidden, minhyuk made it sound like a prayer, even.

days went on slow, then. lazy afternoons with big mugs of coffee and occasionally hot chocolate. long talks about many things but nothing in particular. yukwon realized he was talking to an angel after many confused expressions and maybe too many questions. he was talking to an angel, a creature that was many years, centuries even, older than him. he was a creature that did not know how to use a phone or a computer. he did not know anything about tabooes nor rules; he was pure and clean; the closest thing to perfection a man could know. the angel knew nothing about emotions, human emotions, but yukwon knew that minhyuk knew strictly what fear was. he shook his head and kept talking to minhyuk, until his eyelids gave up and fell down, until his pillow embraced his head and let him sleep. minhyuk walked out of the room, but sometimes, he sat on the floor and listened to the boy's breathing and his light snoring.

yukwon remembered the first days after he found minhyuk, when he thought he was just a human that had been genetically manipulated or some crazy stuff like that.

but he was wrong. there was nothing human in him. his eyes had a color like bronze and copper, with dark eyelashes that brushed his skin. not even the way his skin glowed under the sunlight was human, not even the way his hair swayed or shone was human. it was almost scary, the quiet look in the angel's eyes, the silent meaning of each one of his words. he was powerful, yukwon knew that if he wanted, minhyuk could kill him with a snap of his long fingers.

--

yukwon couldn't help it when he reached out to touch him. he slowly lifted his arm and unfisted his hand, minhyuk was merely staring at him,  which made yukwon freeze like that. the angel barely moved his head in approval, and so yukwon brushed his cheek with his fingertips. it was soft, just as soft as he imagined clouds could be. they were both sitting on the window sill, and the last trays of sunlight were grazing upon them through the window. minhyuk closed his eyes, and yukwon stayed like that for a few seconds. time froze for him, the world stopped moving, every sound died while floating on air. he stayed like that, and it felt as if he was touching heaven itself.

"he wanted me to give him everything i could", minhyuk said, swallowing down and closing his eyelids a little bit harder. silence made its victorious way into the room, yukwon noticed, the air became thick and heavy on his shoulders. he rested his hand in minhyuk's neck, feeling the warm crawl onto his skin. "he wanted me to make him powerful and he wanted to taste glory with his own tongue." the angel frowned, words were somehow harder to pronounce.

"minh-"

"he said he would kill me if i refused to." one of his wings fell to the floor, no longer attached to his slim back, and only a soft thud was heard. "angels can't die." he gloomly added. with his eyelids still covering his deep orbs, yukwon thought he looked like one of those ancient sculptures; divine and sacred, untouched and holy. he was, after all, an angel.

"he tied my hands, my feet, my wings. he tortured me with all of his might. after that, i was buried down in the ground." yukwon stiffed, minhyuk still felt calm as ever. truth is, he wasn't, the angel was struggling to keep his voice loud and clear. he was struggling with his own body, his own mind. angels were strong, but he was so broken, so tired, he was nothing but weak. he was weak to the bone. "i was left to die, without being able to."

"only then, i wished i was just as human as everyone else; so i could die. i wished i could die instantly." he continued.

a cold shiver ran up yukwon's body, he couldn't even imagine what it was like to be buried down alive; yet there he was, minhyuk speaking calmly, like he was telling a tale to a kid. he remembered how he found minhyuk's inert body, he remembered his dirty pale skin; like old porcelain, he remembered every bruise, every stain of dry blood.

it was not right. angels weren't meant to wait for death to come. yukwon took his hand back, closed his fist and waited for minhyuk to open his eyes again.

"i wish i could have found you earlier."

"i'm just glad it was you who found me."

--

"what?" yukwon let the spoon on the table, hitting his almost empty bowl of soup with it. minhyuk's face remained calm, and not even with yukwon's scandalized voice did his brows furrow nor did his mouth twitch. "you mean, actually going out?" he asks, eyes wide and mouth gaping.

"i want to go out, yes." he sounds determined, but he wasn't really demanding anything. he knew, for some odd reason, yukwon would comply.

fourth months living with the young boy were enough to be able to read him like a normal book. minhyuk already knew the lines of him, the dialogues, the periods and the commas. yukwon was pretty much his favorite book. humans weren't easy to comprehend, minhyuk learnt when he was in heaven, but yukwon was really worth the try.

minhyuk wiggled his wings, just out of a habit. the last trays of light were falling through the courtains of the house. the cold days of december were almost there.

"we'll go out at midnight."

and when the moon was finally standing above them, yukwon stood up from the couch and motioned minhyuk to follow him. no one dared to leave home after 9 p.m., the cold wind and the tender rain made it hard to walk, the burning cold made it almost unbearable to be outside at midnight. yukwon was wearing as many sweaters and jackets as he could, minhyuk was wearing sweaters and jackets with holes on his back, and his wings were comfortably covered by a thick blanket. the street was empty, just as expected.

"be careful not to step on it. you will land with your face on the sidewalk." yukwon said, pointing at the blanket pooling at minhyuk's feet. the angel eagerly nodded in response. yukwon stopped walking in front of him, he was just standing there, staring at the angel's face.

yukwon couldn't really find words to describe what his eyes were witnessing. an angel, perhaps it was the most fitting word. an angel, pale and tender, unreal under the moonlight; slim and delicate, with his long lashes and flawfree skin, his pink and delicately shaped lips, his high cheekbones and symmetrical lines. an angel, there were no words to match minhyuk's beauty.

"is something wrong?" minhyuk asked, his melodic voice walking over air until it brushed yukwon's face. the boy shook his head, blinked a few times and resumed walking.

he couldn't get the image out of his head.

"it's been a while since i've been outside." minhyuk commented, walking next to yukwon. he never complained about being all day home, never really cared if he never got to see the moon without a crystal window to lean onto. but he was curious; for the first time in his life, he actually felt curious and eager and he wanted to feel the moon's glow brushing his old skin.

"i'm sorry, i didn't know you wanted to go out. i mean, i wanted to keep you safe and-"

"thank you. it's okay, yukwon. you've done so much more for me than you think." minhyuk said firmly, making yukwon stop walking. he didn't stop, thoug, his feet kept moving one after another, following the clear path ahead of him. yukwon walked faster until they were next to each other again.

"i never asked you before." the angel softly said. yukwon stuffed his hands in the warmth of his pockets, and tried not to glance at minhyuk so often. it was almost impossible, because it was like admiring a painting come to life under the white light of the moon. it was almost impossible because his eyes were automatically drawn to the angel.

"can i ask you something?" yukwon mumbled. minhyuk was sitting on an old rusty bench, the nearest to the street lamp, and he looked up at him, and then nodded in approval. "is minhyuk your real name?"

"no. it was given to me years ago, when i fell to this earth." minhyuk dryly answered. "ithuriel." he said, while staring at the elegant moon above his head. "my name is ithuriel."

yukwon reluctantly swallowed the thousand of questions, pushing them down his throat because he knew he would ask for too much. he would ask too much.

they stayed like that for two hours straight, grazing at the stars that eventually appeared on the sky, when the clouds decided to move on and let them shine. only the sounds of nature were heard, the dancing leaves and the singing of the crickets under the bushes. only their even breaths, only the cracking joints of yukwon's fingers.

"we should go back home." minhyuk suggested, tugging at yukwon's sleeve. "you need to sleep."

--

"so you never feel cold? or hot?" yukwon asked, his brows coming closer as he frowned; evidently confused. the angel shook his head, and kept folding and unfolding a piece of paper.

"no. but i like wearing these." he confessed, pointing at his black sweater. "i can't get sick or feel hungry either."

"wow. why didn't you tell me before? i've been spending my money on apple-"

"i like apples. please." minhyuk said, raising his voice louder. yukwon smiled widely at him, shaking his head in fake disappointment, unable to hide the spark in his eyes.

"please what?"

"i'm not sure. aren't you supposed to say please after you ask for something?"  minhyuk confusedly touched his lips, something he had learnt from yukwon. he had learnt many things, human emotions and gestures. it was nice to see him smile (or attempt to), arch his brows or blink a bit more, yukwon thought, but it did nothing to make him look more human. he was just as ethereal and surreal as ever.

"oh, you mean you'd like some apples?" minhyuk nodded, "oh, okay. i'll buy more."

"yukwon?" the angel called out, his voice unsure but clear as it could be. yukwon looked up and met his eyes directly. it was difficult to chose the right words when you grew up without using them, minhyuk thought, while he tried to put some coherent phrases together. "what does it feel like? being human?"

yukwon didn't know what to say. what did it feel like? to breathe and choke, to walk and fall down, to break and bleed and heal?  what did it feel like to wake up one day knowing it could be the last day of your life?

yukwon couldn't place it into words.

"i… it's difficult. too many emotions, i guess." he merely concluded, too troubled to even think about it. "all you have to do is live life to the fullest. live like is the last day of your life."

"i've never felt something like that." minhyuk stated, staring down at his hands. "the closes i've gotten to a human emotion is love, i believe, love and then fear."

even though angels love differently, he decided not to add.

"have you ever loved someone?" yukwon knew he wasn't eager to know the answer, he did not want to hear the name of the one minhyuk used to love; mostly because it even hurt to think about it. was minhyuk talking about the person that buried him? or was he talking about another angel?  he was afraid of knowing the answer. he couldn't stop imagining minhyuk's bright smile directed at someone else; even if he had never witnessed it. he wanted to be the one to make minhyuk smile.

"i have." was all minhyuk dared to say. yukwon stared deeply into his now empty bowl; playing around with the spoon on his hand. "have you?" yukwon could only nod.

--

"before i met you, i only knew valentine." minhyuk told him, sitting on the couch with a blanket covering his legs, his wings spread over the cushions on the sides and his back. "that's why i thought humans were disgusting and evil. i believed you humans were corrupted, because valentine was. he was selfish and he wanted all the glory that belongs to god to himself. he wanted his own new world." he paused, and he sighed loudly. yukwon was sprawled on the carpet, eyes still on minhyuk.  "i never thought i'd meet someone like you."

"why did you fall from heaven?" yukwon asked, only hoping the blood boiling in his cheeks wasn't noticeable under the dim light of the room.

"because i didn't love the right one. after i fell on earth, valentine found me and locked me up." he was afraid yukwon would notice the fear edging his voice, he was afraid of sttutering and letting the young boy know how much it hurt to remember.

"i'm sorry you had to go through all of that." yukwon said, clenching his fists.

"you have nothing to be sorry for."

"do you still wish you were human?"  yukwon asked, the bluntness his voice used to wear was nowhere to be found. minhyuk noticed the slight tremble of his words and he slowly unfolded his long, slim legs until his feet touched the carpet. yukwon lifted himself on his hands, and sat straight, then. minhyuk kneeled in front of him, and cautiously placed his hands on yukwon's cheeks.

"i wish i was human enough for you to love me." minhyuk whispered, leaning in and resting his forehead on the young boy. "i wish it was right for me to love you."

the world seemed to fade away behind minhyuk's bronze eyes, there was nothing else past him, nothing but his words and the warmth of his hands. nothing besides his soothing voice and his sweet breath.

"i- i…" yukwon was certain he had lost the ability to speak.

"shh…" minhyuk hushed him, and closed his eyes. "what else is there to lose?" he said as he took yukwon's breath away.

the angel pressed his lips against yukwon's, soft and tender, gentle, warm; they were everything yukwon thought couldn't be real.

when he was a kid he liked to believe what his mother told him; you have something special. he never knew what it meant, but after many years he was sure he had something special. something really, really special. he had found something heavenly special.

tiny note; if you havent read the books of the mortal instruments you might need to know that the guy who caught ithuriel used magic to chain him and do horrible things to him ok ;~; ithuriel isnt a ~warrior of light~ but a ~light worker~ so yeah he doesnt fight or anything but fijrpofkñ
