SHINee ➸ fem!taekey, fluff. pg-13. oneshot.

On the feet of a queen of the hearts of the cards;

the first time gwiboon saw her, she was wearing ripped off stockings and a ridiculously short skirt, her hair was disheveled and almost tied up in a pony tail. her big brown eyes were tired, apathic, she was walking out of this world while walking through the hallways.

"she's fucked up", junghee repeats, frowning a little and parting her lips. she always does that funny face when she's serious. "why do you even like her?"
why, she had to admit it was a good question. first love, soulmates, gwiboon didn't believe in any of these.
perhaps it was just the fact that this girl, with the dyed and damaged hair and the heavy boots was something new, something different. something gwiboon couldn't really touch but her fingertips were burning to meet.

her name was taeyeon. gwiboon had no idea where she had popped out from but she wasn't going to ask more questions, eunsook was already lecturing her on how to pick her friends properly, how to carefully choose the people you hangout with. "it's already bad enough you're friends with junghee." a snort in response, and gwiboon made her way to the cafeteria.

a week passed by and gwiboon couldn't take her out of her mind, the way her eyebags darkened her milky skin, the way her thick lips were completely still as she kept walking through a mass of bodies. she couldn't stop thinking of her.as if by magic, as soon as she entered the studying hall after classes, she saw the same bouncy pony tail on one of the tables, and there she was, hair as messy as the first time she saw her, but this time her clothes had some color and were lacking holes and scratches.

"do you mind if i take a seat?" she asked, a foreign feel of unnecessary politeness on her voice. the girl raised her head, which was buried in her crossed arms, her eyes were sleepy but round as ever, deep as ever. gwiboon held her breath, not really
knowing what to expect. taeyeon shook her head and attempted to smile, resting her forehead back on her arms, still on the table.

"are you feeling well?" gwiboon asked, and wished to take her words back as soon as she blurted them out. taeyeon quirked and eyebrow, gwiboon noticed by the way her bangs moved along with it.
"yeah, i'm fine." she seemed out of it, her voice was raspy but calm, she sounded tired. she didn't look interested in holding conversations so gwiboon awkwardly pulled a random book from her bag and pretended to read, when in fact she was just listening to the younger's even breaths.

"so you're a creeper now." junghee stated matter of factly, a grin spreading across her lips. gwiboon scoffed, rolled her eyes and punched the older girl lightly. "ow- what. that is called creeping, or stalking. you name it."
"it's not stalking. it is called approaching someone." gwiboon defended herself and her arguments, which were completelyvalid, unlike junghee's. after she supposedly read a few pages of her biology book, taeyeon stood up, barely vowed and walked out of the place. she didn't seem bothered by gwiboon's presence.

"which is the same thing." junghee teased. she knew when gwiboon wasn't willing to keep on arguing so she moved on.
"i heard she once came to school reeking of alcohol."

gwiboon hummed in response, thinking about alcohol and pink lips, and like that, she got lost in her track of thoughts.

"do you need help with anything?" taeyeon asked, voice mildly intrigued. her eyes narrowed and gwiboon noticed the smeared kohl above her long eyelashes. "you've been following me around."
gwiboon's mind cleared up a bit as she noticed the harsh tone of these words. perhaps she was really a creeper.

"i wanted to talk to you." she mumbled, clear enough for taeyeon to hear, low enough for her voice to get lost in the air.
taeyeon's face went blank after a few seconds.
"what about?" by the time the girl replied, gwiboon had started curling her blonde hair around her index finger, curling and uncurling and realizing how dumb the situation was.
"nothing in particular. just talk?" she got an understanding noise in response, but nothing more. the felt the thin air wrapping its long hands around her neck.
"don't you have friends or anything?" taeyeon had started walking again, this time heading to the cafeteria, gwiboon had followed her, this time closer, her arms brushing and her shoulders bumping every now and then, when the halls were crowded and the corners too close. her words were blunt but gwiboon didn't find them offensive; which was weird.

"i do. i do have friends. it's just that you seem interesting to talk to." and it was partially true. true enough so the words slipped off her tongue easily and gracefully. taeyeon was wearing ripped black pants, threads hanging on her thighs and moving as she swayed her hips, a loose white shirt with the word "riot" scribbled on it and white boots. gwiboon was just wearing grey jeans with black sneakers and a colorful splashed blouse hanging on her shoulders. at least they matched, she cheerfully thought.

"i don't have many friends, and i don't even talk that much." taeyeon said, moving her pouty lips more than necessary.gwiboon frowned a little, but a kind smile took place on her face. "we can fix that."
"if you say so. my name is taeyeon, by the way."
"i kn- i'm gwiboon. kim gwiboon."

"really, gwiboon, you shouldn't talk to this girl." eunsook commented, playing around with her food. gwiboon sighed, arranging for the fifth time in 30 minutes her ponytail. eunsook was a lovely person, playful and kind and she was a great friend, but she had this terrible habit of acting like a grumpy grandmother every so often. oh, and she hated her best friend, junghee. "i mean it. i know you're capable of taking care of yourself but people like her-"

"she's okay. she's nice." gwiboon stubbornly interrupted. and then it was eunsook's turn to exaggeratedly sigh.
"oh my god. am i talking to a 5 years old?" eunsook frowned and did a weird motion with her hands, and accidentally dropped her fork.

at least one of her friends accepted her interest in taeyeon. yeah, junghee kept on teasing her like there was no tomorrow but she was kind of supportive when she wasn't paying attention to her main goal of bothering gwiboon's life.
they exchanged words at least four times per week, and gwiboon was incredibly happy when for the first time taeyeon had showed a small amount of interest in starting a normal conversation.

"i kind of like you." she had said, looking at the clouded sky. gwiboon's heart had tripped over its own feet and kept beating unevenly, but she was still able to put on a smile. a wide, stupid smile.
"thanks." she said, blushing a bit at the top of her high cheekbones. taeyeon had smiled, too, her eyes crinkling and turning into pretty and sunny slits, and startled gwiboon stared at her.

what started with interest and curiosity ended up being the happy and exciting part of her life, even if she didn't notice this. it started so randomly, as one of gwiboon's many impulsive ideas of talking to people and asking irrelevant things to everyone. but this time, she liked to think it was different. it felt different when they met for the first time outside of school, gwiboon was wearing pink shorts and a white blouse that was pooling on her tiny waist, and taeyeon was just wearing black jeans with a see-through shirt with a red wifebeater underneath. they were the exact opposite of each other, but neither of them seemed to care as they started walking on the sidewalk.

so far, gwiboon could tell taeyeon wasn't like the other girls. she was special, she had something pooling under her eyelids, something that sparked and made gwiboon's lips curl into a smile. as simple as that, taeyeon had something magical that no one seemed to notice.

it was odd, how the younger girl always seemed to get herself a hungover every morning, but gwiboon didn't ask about it. it was funny how taeyeon always complained about being dead sleepy but never refused to hang around after school.
it was funny how taeyeon made her toes feel all bubbly, boneless and tickling.

no one talked to her, gwiboon realized one day, and it was strange, considering how taeyeon was just lovely and interesting and everything gwiboon seemed to need in her life.

"well, perhaps we all understand what fucked up refers to, dear." junghee had argued one morning, absentmindedly touching her hair. as she anticipated the eye roll from gwiboon, she spoke first. "do you really like her, though?"
gwiboon closed her lips, eyes widening just a bit. she swallowed her witty comments and struggled with her words, frowning and junghee stared at her like a curious kid.

"it just feels different. i've never felt like this before." she finally confessed.
"you need to talk to her, then." junghee concluded, her voice wise and decided, something rare in her. "she really needs to stop with the alcohol."

"you like me?" taeyeon echoed one day, both standing under a tree near the school's entrance.
gwiboon just nodded in response, eyes darting away from the younger girl; avoiding her shiny orbs and her questioning looks. it was the first time she had confessed to someone, let alone a girl.
"as friends or- "
"no. i like you. a lot."

gwiboon finally turned her head back to meet the younger's eyes and found what she thought could be the most precious stare in the world. her eyes were traslucid, the soft color melting in her orbs as her smile widened and reached her eyes. taeyeon giggled, covering her mouth. she still had eyebags and her hair was messily hanging on her shoulders and she was still a walking mess. but her smile was the most perfect thing ever created and nothing else did really matter.

"are you sure? haven't you heard the rumors?" her voice was fearful in the edges, still soft and slightly concerned. her eyelashes were sticking to each other, thick and long around her eyes, her fringe was covering her eyes and her clothes were loose around her frame.

she had that thing, gwiboon thought, that thing that made her stand out and shine brighter than everybody else even if she did nothing but hide within the crowds of people. she had these perfect flaws splattered here and there, but they only made her more real.
she had shattered pieces of herself laying on her hands, waiting to be put together.

she made gwiboon feel as if she was made of bubbles, popping one by one whenever she got close; whenever her hair moved and brushed gwiboon's skin, whenever their hands touched or when she spoke in that witty way of hers.

"i have. i have heard all of them, i knew them after i saw you for the first time. i don't give a fuck." gwiboon said, smiling. she was blushing and her heart was about to throw itself off a cliff, nerves breaking and bones shaking.

taeyeon sighed comically, grabbing gwiboon's wrists.
"you sure are persistent."
"you sure are worth it."

nobody knew, taeyeon was like a queen hidden in the back of a card, she was there, beautiful and ethereal and hers.
she made her insides turn into bubbles and her eyes outshine the moon.
