Chapter 10
The deeper they went into the forest, the more mesmerized Jaejoong was. His doe eyes wide open, taking in the scenery carefully as he tries to carve each detail into his mind. Besides the lovely sight, the sound of nature was extremely soothing. Wind blew softly shaking the branches and birds chirped vigilantly nearby as if they are holding a meeting discussing the two beings traveling down this less traveled path.
Suddenly Jaejoong stops in his track, forcing Yunho to stop as well since their hands were still linked.
“What is it?” Yunho asks, curious of why Jaejoong halts all of the sudden.
“Do you hear it?” Jaejoong looks around curriously. “Water flowing… Is there a river?”
Yunho smiles at how attentive his angel is, “You are right. But I want to show you something even better. Come on!” Yunho tugs on Jaejoong’s hand as they continue down the trail to the heart of the mountain.
After a couple minutes more of hiking, the sound of water flow is closer than ever.
“Close your eyes.” Yunho requests.
“What? Why?” Jaejoong asks, his voice filled with confusion.
“I want this to be a surprise.” Yunho turns Jaejoong around so that his back is facing him, and then brings his hands up to cover Jaejoong’s eyes to prevent peeking.
Slowly, Yunho guides Jaejoong forward, carefully avoiding ivies and branches in their way.
“We are here!” Yunho announces when they come to a stop, slowly removing his hands from covering Jaejooong’s eyes.
If Jaejoong’s eyes were big before, now they are even bigger, sparkling when he saw the sight in front of him.
“WOW!” Jaejoong screams in excitement, “Waterfall!!”
This is the first time Jaejoong seen a waterfall in real life, not just out of scenic photobooks, his astonishment is clearly evident, he is nearly jumping up and down like a little kid that has received the tastiest treat. Jaejoong turns around facing Yunho with a huge smile on his face while pointing to the water freefalling from the rocks behind them.
Yunho nods, happy to see Jaejoong in such an excited state.
With an act of instinct, Jaejoong jumps into Yunho’s arms hugging him close screaming, “It’s so beautiful! Thank you so much for showing me!”
Yunho picks Jaejoong up and spins him around, letting themselves indulge in this moment. “I’m glad you like it!”
Jaejoong’s melodic laugher echoes off the surrounding mountains and cave.
“Come on, let’s have a closer look.” Yunho grabs Jaejoong’s wrist and leads him to the edge of the river and kneels down in front of Jaejoong.
“What?” Jaejoong cocks his head sideways to show how confused he felt.
“Take of your shoes, I want to show you what is hidden behind the waterfall!” Yunho reaches a hand out ready to help Jaejoong take of his shoes.
Jaejoong laughs and bends down swiftly removing his shoes. “I can do it myself! Besides, with you kneeling down like that, it was as if you were proposing to me.”
‘Maybe one day I will be given the opportunity to do so.’ Yunho fantasizes while taking of his shoes as well and rolls up his pants like Jaejoong has done.
Slowly, but together, both of them dip their feet into the lucid water waiting for their body to adjust to the coldness.
Carefully, the two makes their way towards the cave hidden by the watery veil.
“These rocks are slippery.” Jaejoong comments as he moves another foot forward, trying to find balance when he lands on another slippery rock.
“Yes they are…” Yunho replies, returning his concentration back to the task at hand: making it to the waterfall without slipping. “Be careful-”
Yunho’s barely finished his regards when Jaejoong lets out a surprised yelp, “AHH!!”
With a turn of his head upon hearing Jaejoong’s cry, Yunho found Jaejoong slipping back ready to hit the water. Instinctively his arm curls around Jaejoong’s tiny waist, to steady him. That moment with Jaejoong in his arms, their proximity so close, while both looked deep into each other’s eyes… It was as if time stopped. The world disappeared with only the two of them remaining… Lost in each other’s eyes. However, few seconds later, Yunho’s own balance falters, sending both of them splashing into the cold water.
They both stole a glance at each other’s soaked form and bursts out into cheerful laughter.
“I guess I can’t trust you for saving me!” Jaejoong jokes.
Yunho laughs and replies, “Sure you can! Just pick a day when I can stand on my two feet without falling over because of your beauty!”
Another blush creeps up Jaejoong’s cheeks as he tries to cover it by wiping of the water from his face.
Jaejoong laughs wholeheartedly when he sees Yunho covered with water from head to toe, and points to him. “You are absolutely soaked!”
“So are you.” Without thought, Yunho brushes away a stray strand of hair from Jaejoong’s face.
Then, for the second time in matter of minutes, the two of them were lost in each other’s gaze. Yunho’s eyes slowly follow the water trickling down from Jaejoong’s hair, down the cute button nose, all the way to plump red lips, as he unconsciously leans forward ready to capture them.
With a pull of the force of attraction, Jaejoong finds himself leaning forward as well, letting his eyelashes glaze over his pale cheeks when he closes his eyes. His brain has long stopped functioning, with his logic throw out to space. He didn’t understand what was going on, but it felt… right.
Suddenly, Yunho realizes what he was doing, he pulls back all too forcefully and looks away. Not sure how he would explain his actions to his angel.
With the sudden break of attraction, Jaejoong keeps his eyes closed as well. A wave of previously unknown disappointment washes over him… How he wishes he could dump his face into the cold water drowning himself away from reality.
‘I thought he was going to kiss me…’ Jaejoong feels dejected, ‘Why didn’t he? …Do I actually want him to kiss me?’
Awkwardness fills the air as the two became confused with their own thoughts and feelings.
Yunho decided it may be the best if he pretends nothing happened, maybe Jaejoong would forget it and not ask.
“Now we can make it to the waterfall faster without having to be worried about getting wet.” Yunho stands up from his spot and holds his hand out to help Jaejoong up.
Jaejoong graciously takes his hand pulling himself up while pushing the incident to the back of his mind.
Two of them together, steadying each other with their hands intertwined, made their way to across the slippery surface to the waterfall.
Yunho leads Jaejoong around to the entrance of the cave hidden behind the waterfall. He gets up on the rocky clearing then helps Jaejoong get out of the water.
Jaejoong quickly takes on exploring around the cave, completely overwhelmed by the sight he never knew exists. Who knew the beautiful waterfall has hidden something so precious behind it? It was a work of art, art of nature.
“Thank you for taking me here.” Jaejoong says gratefully when he settles down besides Yunho dangling his legs off of the rocky edge after he was done exploring. “This is the first time I’ve been so close to undisturbed nature.”
Yunho smiles when he heard Jaejoong’s sweet voice and replies, “If you want, I can take you here any time.”
“Great! Next time I’ll make sure to bring my camera so I can capture every moment.” Jaejoong smiles and silently adds in his heart the two words ‘with you’.
Behind the watery veil, it was just the two of them, enjoying each other’s presence in a natural serene surrounding.
The sun was slowly setting when the two decides it was time to go back, not before promising to visit again soon, together.
