Try to let it go.., And if you try, I'll try to let it show
On a very serious note it has come to my attention that the future childhoods of the yet-to-be-conceived youth is in jeopardy. Oh yea this is gonna be a long rant so brace yourself.
Here me out here..what is the one thing every adult can say helped mold and shape the pinnacle of their child years??..oh yes, that's right, Disney movies. cha-chiiiiiing
I'm for reals...For instance... Bambi's mom gets killed within the first 5 minutes of the film, Simba's dad dies in a stampede of furry animal things (which i forgot) and then yet again loses his uncle to some very hungry hyenas. This is not just about reaching a happy ending. No sir. This is what helped generations of people examine the reality of death and how it is the inevitable fate of every living creature. This is serious stuff for a 5 year old to take in, but when bad shit like that is followed by a catchy sing-a-long about becoming king..it just makes it so much easier to cope with.
Let's also examine movies like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Hunchback of Notre Dame, and so many more...they touch the tough issues of discrimination towards those of different races, and those who have those freakish mutations you see on the Discovery Health Channel.
And let's not forget Alice in Wonderland which teaches kids all the funny shit that can happen when you take a shitload of drugs lmaoooo. Okay no, that's bad..but cool to watch. But it does face the issues of peer pressure. All those creatures telling her to eat and drink all that shit...Alice was an example of how you should NOT give in..cause if you do, you're gonna get into serious trouble like having your head cut off by a deck of cards.
Even today, society is influenced by what they saw in Disney movies as a child. Like how do you think the Producer of Little People, Big World came up with that tv concept?? Hmmm??? can we say Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs?
So here's the problem. Ever since Pixar pretty much purchased Disney.. we've lost all those classics and the hope of there ever being any more. Everything is all digital and 3D...gimme some damn cell-animation, hand-drawn quality movies.
I knew something was up when Toy Story hit theaters. We're losing touch with all those classic fairy tales and hidden moral-of-the-stories the old movies possessed. Little girls aren't going to aspire to grow up to be a fairy princess one day.. They're going to think it's cool to get fat and ugly and settle for a beer guzzling fatty with an irish accent and claim that they fell in love with his 'personality' pffffffffffft. Fuck that. I think that movie was created by some feminist who hid subliminal messages in there to make little girls want to grow up to be butch and think you don't have to impress your man with looks.
I know Disney has pretty much covered all the well known classic fairy tales..but there are thouuuuusands of fairy-tale like stories written in literature that Disney...i mean Pixar could cover. Heck, they don't even really have to be fairy tales...Lion King isn't really one, but it's sure as hell a classic.. All that 'circle of life' shit..that's touching...movies like that could make a grown man cry. Even an animation about Rip Van Winkle or something would be cool...I personally would love to hear a song and dance about living in the Catskill Mountains.
It just sucks how technology takes the life out of things. Watch in like a year, they're gonna have a 3D animated Pixar film about a prince and a princess meeting each other through Myspace but they face the perils of internet trojans threatening the prince's hard drive...you chuckle, but you won't when it actually happens... I for one, wouldn't be surprised.
And also, these new computer generated films don't really have good morals or story-lines.. Like, what the hell was Madagascar? and this Over the Hedge shit...and what was that chicken movie I saw on HBO OnDemand with Mel Gibson as the rooster? I can't believe I wasted 90 minutes of my life on that....all for chicken pies. I'm really sick of the talking animals thing...i'm not impressed..and im definitely not excited (haha name that song loll i couldn't help myself)
We could also look at the economic stand-point of this too. If they get rid of hand drawn animations, what's going to happen to the thousands of people who draw them?.. "sorry little timmy, there won't be a christmas this year, daddy hasn't learned After Effects v5.0 and they're not looking for artists anymore."
:(
I know..it breaks my heart too...plus, Tim Burton got his start as a cell animator for Disney. There it goes..the next would-be Tim Burton is now on the unemployment line. boo
It's just not the same. And those sequels and straight-to-dvd animations do not count. I want something original here. Let's not have another Land Before Time trend just to keep animations alive.
..i don't know how I'm going to get used to this..it's so depressing. It's gonna take me a whole 30 minutes to get over this
Now that i've covered this very serious matter in depth, carry on with your lives ;)
