of fandom and of random things

hey! guess what, folks, z's back in town and she brought socks and pasalubong (tuyo and noodles and liver spread and cornicks!) and gave 'em to me. i shall snap pictures of my socks, one of which i especially adore, and post them here later. like, say, tomorrow afternoon? it's not as though i have something better to do.

hmm two hours until my work-out session starts. i MISSED yesterday due to the fact that i overslept; what can i say, loves, i really REALLY like sleeping considering i didn't do so much of it the day before that...

so i've been in a hole these past days. how are you lot doing? summer's been interesting for you? (yes, i realize i make pathetic attempts at being social, but heh.)

also: i've been reading the sixth installment of harry potter (and harry potter fics, heh), and i'm seriously dreading the parts where harry feels butterflies in his stomach when he sees ginny--more like, when he smells flowers 'cos ginny happens to be a very flowery person despite of the fact that she's so like a slytherin--and when he feels angryjealous and horrendously green monsters gnawing at his guts when he spots ginny snogging her boytoy boyfriend.

oh, god i've been YEARNING to go to the public library since summer began. i would like to have some time with my beloved aka certain YA novels and neil gaiman's other novels like caroline, you know, but my parents are occupied--sometimes just unspeakably lazy, though i really don't blame them--to drop me off at the PL. i'd be perfectly happy to chew on some good fiction right about now, but sadly i can't do this anytime soon.

okay, so let's talk (and talk and talk) about harry potter. i think i'm getting a tad mad since i've recently started DAYDREAMING (!) about waiting in line at borders on friday at 12 midnight sharp just so i can get my hands on a copy of the deathly hallows by the time it's saturday morning. um.  oh, i have tried to convince one of my friends to join the awesomeness that is harry potter but woe is me! she simply thought i had gone crazy. i'm not, you know, fanatical about harry potter although i am admittedly worshiping it--the series, not the character harry potter--a little because, hello, harry potter's sort of cute if you ignore his positively bad taste in women. (i am talking about Harry Potter the character now--well, okay, i am stating the obvious to myself because by tomorrow morning when i read this entry i'd be utterly confused and question things, like  omg, why did JKR title the series harry potter?) furthermore, who can resist the wonderful concept of  harry having a love/hate ohmygodthisisSOfuckedup relationship with draco? okay, maybe it's just me. whatever. leave me and my slash fantasies alone, hey.

it's sort of weird, 'cos now i see EVERYTHING in...a slashy way. this is what i get for involving myself in the Harry Potter Fandom (in a lurker-ish way), i suppose, but i don't really mind. anyway, i'm wearing Slash!glasses now so whenever i see two (fictional) people of the same sex, i immediately think of something like, well, this:

ME: *watches a TV show and listens to two characters of the same sex interact with one another* ohh, they're gay aren't they.

i then proceed to think of said two characters. like how characterA didn't really punch characterB; A simply showed B that love is a violent thing. i also lament upon how they aren't really flaming homosexuals, after which i will find some fics about A and B, fics about how they really like each other Like That but somehow their feelings for one another were repressed, what with the world ending and the ugly-looking aliens are attempting to conquer the Universe, which includes A and B's planet. therefore, it isn't an appropriate for A and B to hook up when they're in the middle of, you know,  war. and A doesn't like B, nope, never--and A will NEVER like B not even when you bribe A with lemon meringue and tuyo. and That Incident did not imply that A liked B that way.  A was SICK and was almost DYING the time A punched B in the face for flirting with that ridiculous half-wit. it really wasn't A's fault; B was blind! stupid! annoying! cold and cruel! A simply saved B the trouble of heartbreak or worse, marriage. imagining B being all sweet to HALF-WIT is rather disturbing and the mere thought of it poses as a Big Threat to A's mental health.

in conclusion: slash is fun! and cool; it just is! really, do you need to HAVE a reason to like it? um, no. NOT REALLY.

...and oh, i should inform you belatedly that i am involved in two fandoms--three if you include House--and i have the propensity to keep Fandom and Personal Life separate...but well, what the hell. most of my closest friends don't know about my torrid affair with Fandom (in general), and considering i have set a considerable amount of time aside for  it they should have the right to know. secondly, i'm IN the fandom--well, two. three. whatever--mainly because  i am interested in reading slash fiction, which a certain friend of mine would certainly and STRONGLY disapprove of and yank my chains about if she were to discover of my hobbies. i am aware that some of my closest friends think that homosexuality is sin and all that and oh my god what on earth are you thinking READING about two fictional gay characters who are in love with each other and who face problems like other humans do, and i respect their opinion even though i disagree with them. it's another story entirely, but yeah. in short: i keep this fandom-y as well as slashy side of me to myself...most of the time, anyway. :p

so! this shall serve as a warning, y'all:  i'll probably talk about fandom and slashy things here from time to time. it probably certainly won't be like, graphic. reading slash fiction is not the same as reading, say, porn. just my opinion. but like a friend said, you won't really understand something unless you experience it yourself, first hand. (now i'm talking something different...)

so d'you lot any have books youve read this past year? so far, i intend to borrow the following books from the public library:
  • neil gaiman's caroline
  • holly black's valiant and the sequel after that...
  • the last installment of the sisterhood and the traveling pants
  • a ya novel i read a couple weeks ago, but can't recall the title OR the author's name
obviously, i am in love with YA novels so rec away if you have some favorites in mind. :)

ETA: so, today was apparently stretching workout day. i did not know that. >:( i understand the importance of stretching, thanks to the the trainers comments about how it's essential and all that. BUT DOING IT FOR LIKE THE ENTIRE HOUR? i'm whinging. sigh. anyway, i guess i should just FINISH stretching....

ETA2: or maybe not. it really made me SLEEPY. (i begrudgingly admit that doing it has SOME benefits.) i stopped; i was literally NODDING off whilst i was inhaling and twisting my limbs as though they were vines. moral lesson: NEVER pull an all-nighter especially when you have to work-out the next morning. i'm going to take a shower, and hit the bed. goodnight, you all!
